Petition: Seven of Nine Spinoff

Ooooooo I will binge watch this series over the weekend/next week.
Prodigy is surprisingly enjoyable. But...
the real Janeway only shows up at the end of the mid-season finale, setting up the second half of the season.

I've seen these people complain already, commenting on a short video about casting news months ago: forced diversity and the usual shit. Too many women, non-white folk, one woman might be queer ...

I sincerely hope that no trek show will ever try to pacify them.

Now, they're whining about a
They got their show, now they're nitpicking it!

Apparently, they wanted S4 of TOS (when men were men and women were cattle).

Be careful what you wish for ...

It's the first forum for a new series that I refuse to post in. I like what I've seen of SNW, and I think I'll like the show itself, but I'm not talking about it with them.

But back on topic: I have a hard time believing they won't keep these characters going, even if Patrick Stewart bows out. Jeri Ryan is really next in the pecking order on that series, and she could carry a series as the lead, so a Seven Series makes sense.

A Rios Series on the Stargazer would be just more of the same. Just another Starfleet ship, except the Captain smokes a cigar. Seven, on La Sirena, isn't just another Starfleet Captain on just another Starfleet ship, doing regular Starfleet stuff. So that's why I support a Seven Series over a Rios Series. Nothing against Rios.

Exactly. Seven and crew as chaotic good Rangers on La Sirena can get into a lot of grey area world-building that a straightforward Starfleet show can't, while still bringing in Federation-involved plotlines. I'm more interested in that than another show set on a Federation ship.

I do hope Rios comes back as a recurring character.

Seven can always use friends in Starfleet. :)

We have no shortage of Starfleet shows.

Picard has taken on a life of its own. What was intended as a slow, meditative exercise has instead turned into this loopy, mind-bending, high-octane thrill ride! :guffaw:

I don't read it that way - it sounds like a very standard response to the question of how an actor feels about a show wrapping up. Even if there is something in the works, none of the cast would be dropping hints before S3 even aired.

I have a funny feeling that Seven of Nine won’t be getting a spin-off after all…. Apparently the last time Jeri Ryan played the character in Picard was ‘bitter sweet’. :wah:
But this will be in season 3 by the sounds of it.

Jonathan Frakes outright told Trekmovie that there was more than enough Riker from Lower Decks and Picard S1 knowing all along that he already filmed a lot for Picard S3. These actors are trained to hide surprises, even in interviews.

There ARE such things as nondisclosure agreements.

Who knows when this article was written?

There's the matter of what's going to fill Picard's ten-week slot once the show leaves the air. (Section 31 is being reconfigured as a movie).

P+ is committed to having new Trek every single week.

Clickbate sites tend to use dramatic buzz words such as ‘bittersweet,’ ‘heartbreaking,’ etc. in their article titles. I wouldn’t put much stock in it.

Personally, I think it would be fun to put her in Starfleet (she would have to fight her own bad reputation). She's both too dangerous and too valuable to be left to her own devices (she incited a rebellion aboard the Borg Reclamation Project).
Wasn’t that rebellion against Romulans who were threatening to kill them? Why would Starfleet have a problem with it?

The whole point of the episode was that the Borg were being treated as disposable (Starfleet didn't lift a finger when Icheb was tortured).

That happened outside Federation space, in a place where Starfleet has no jurisdiction, where he had chosen to go in his own free time. Their hands were tied. (Also, we don't know that they didn't do anything or that there was no response. We only know that the person responsible remained free, largely because she was operating in lawless space outside of Federation jurisdiction).

The Artefact was in Romulan space, another place where Starfleet and the Federation have no jurisdiction - look at the lengths Picard and his crew had to go to just to get permission for one person to come aboard. The Federation and Starfleet wouldn't have a problem with Seven's actions there, she was trying to save lives in the face of a ruthless Tal Shiar/Zhat Vash agent prepared to slaughter anyone who got in her path - and Seven was operating as an independent agent, which saves diplomatic face.

'Too dangerous and too valuable to be left to her own devices'? Really? That's not the Federation way. That's not the Starfleet way. That's the way fascists think. Starfleet can't force her to sign up if she doesn't want to, and nor would it want to - an unwilling officer could be a disaster in many ways, and that kind of conscription would run counter to everything they are supposed to stand for. Seven is an independent, free-thinking person who gets to choose what she wants to do with her life, and if she prefers to help people with no other recourse, that's her choice to make.

What of the UFP's relationship with the Romulans?

Surely Seven's rebellion would have diplomatic repercussions.

You DO have a point. :shifty:

Perhaps it would be far better to send in Janeway or Picard to talk to her.

The devastation aboard the Artefact was caused by a rogue Romulan agent, not by Seven. Seven helped to uncover a conspiracy in which it was revealed that a Romulan secret organisation in fact sabotaged a rescue mission that would have saved millions of Romulan lives, so I'm thinking her hijacking of the Artefact in a battle against that rogue agent was probably possible to smoothe over - small fry, in fact, compared with the armed standoff between Starfleet and Tal Shiar forces over Coppelius.

We don't really know much about the UFP's relationship with the new Romulan factions. That's why we need a spinoff to find out more! (But I need that spinoff to include the Raffi-Rios brotp, not just Seven).

As for sending in Janeway or Picard to talk to her...she does have Picard talking to her! They are on a mission together right now! But aside from that...I'm really not clear why you think she needs reining in. Because she chooses to work with the Fenris Rangers? They are the good guys! Seven is doing just fine. What is Janeway supposed to talk her into? Joining Starfleet? She doesn't need to do that if she doesn't want to, if she finds greater purpose elsewhere. If Picard accepts her choice to work with the Fenris Rangers, why wouldn't Janeway?
