Peter Jackson's District 9....

Warped9

I just saw this trailer yesterday online. All I can say is :wtf: :techman:

What a cool and effective trailer. It teases yet hardly tells you a damned thing. I sat there thinking, "What th hell is going on? I want to know more."

I'm intrigued to see this movie.

It's a good trailer, I think, although it certainly appears that the political message - criticising apartheid, which is hardly necessary at this point, will be laid on pretty thick.

Meh, too unsubtle - the "they are not welcome" etc, followed by a shot of a building labelled "Orient Curries" or whatever.

When it comes to districts, I'd rather see B-14 (the sequel to the excellent Banlieu 13) than D-9

I just hope if this film doesn't do well they don't blame it on racism or whatever. It looks kind of interesting though (from what I could see I can't hear it at the moment), it's too bad Sci-Fi Channel doesn't do things like this as I think it would be managable on their meager budgetss.

It peaked my interest.

Piqued. Unless you are *very* interested. :)

I have this on my "must" list along with Moon. It looks like "real" scifi vs CGI special effects blockbuster-over-the-top-where's-my-plot?-type summer fare.

The trailer caught my interest. Could almost be the prequel to Alien Nation, at least the television version. I'll be seeing it if the reviews don't have anything particularly bad to say.

I don't really consider it "Peter Jackson's" if he didn't direct it. I really consider the director the primary shaper of creative vision on a film, unless there's something specific that says otherwise.

Jackson isn't directing The Hobbit, but you can be damned sure his creative control will be plastered all over it. Executive producers can give as little or as much creative control as they like to a director. The Producer is the ultimate boss, the person(s) who controls the money. I'd imagine that one of the things a producer considers when choosing a director is how well they can follow direction themselves if necessary. But it would always depend on the film and who wrote the script, etc. A producer would be much more likely to stick his or her fingers into the creative side if it's "their baby" or something they wrote themselves. In such a case you wouldn't be as inclined to chose a director who had their own vision of the project, or they'd be chosen because something they did previously was close to what the producers has in mind.

That said, seeing as this movie is based upon a short film made by the man who is directing it, so I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson basically lets him do what he wants to with it.
