Peter David Runs Out of Insurance, Loses Medicaid

He was an absolutely fantastic writer, and wrote some of the all time classic Trek novels. It's also worth remembering that if it weren't for his New Frontier books, we probably never would have gotten Titan, Vangauard, Corps of Engineers, or any of the other Trek books not based on a TV series. His only non-Trek books I've read was Knight Life, which was just as good as his Trek book. I know his DC and Marvel comics have a really good reputation, but I've never read any of them.

There's not much more that I can say that hasn't already been said. There are so many novels of his that I've enjoyed over the years. And as JD mentioned, he paved the way by showing that Star Trek novels could be expanded to more than just the crews we saw on-screen.

We've lost a titan of the Trek Lit world today. My sympathies to all his friends and loved ones.

This hits hard. His work got me into Trek. I was only a casual follower until I read Q-Squared. Then I read it again, and again, and again, and sought out episodes to fill the gaps in my knowledge. I bought pretty much every Trek book he wrote, and plenty of his non-Trek novels. Such a wonderful writer.

I was really shocked to hear on Youtube Peter had passed away. My favorite TNG novel he wrote is Imzadi.I read it through in one entire day. Still my favorite book he wrote all these years later.

When I opened this thread and read people talking about Peter David in the past tense I knew something was seriously wrong. So I immediately turned to the first page where I found out about the sad news myself.

By now several people have written this but PAD's death is come like a blow to me as I didn't realize his medical condition was this serious.

It was Peter David's work, in particular his New Frontier books that got me into Star Trek novels after having just dabbled a little with them previously.
One stand out novel for me was Once Burned which I completed in one night as it was too engrossing.

From there I also discovered PAD's other work such as his TNG novels and the Star Trek comics he had written for DC.

I never checked out his original novels which I should consider giving a chance now
