We had a thread dedicated to him back in 2022. I didn't see it at the time, so I was not aware of his health issues. I loved his star trek writing as a child, so it's a bit of a shock to read this stuff.

Thanks. There have been some shockingly good scams run with deep-fake technology. And Mr. Mack, if you just got a quick succession of alerts about my adding and removing reactions, that was because of a bit of clumsiness with the TrekBBS reaction UI.

I can also confirm, as Kathleen and I keep in touch via Dreamwidth and Facebook.

Speaking of Dreamwidth, I think I'll make a point of posting both links on my account there as well!

I met PAD at a Shore Leave over a decade ago. He was kind enough to sign books for me, including my copy of Vendetta (a personal favorite) which was in quite a worn state due to its age and countless re-reads. I apologized for its condition and he said in fact he loved seeing his books like that. It meant it had been read and enjoyed many, many times. He was so right on that score. May he rest in peace.

I've probably read more Peter David books than any other author, in no small part due to New Frontier.

For the last year or so I've been meaning to finally go back and read some of his TNG novels.

Hated hearing this today. For some reason his name was one of the few Trek authors I recognized a lot, and when I got a new book with his name on it I knew I was in for an enjoyable read.

Oof. This hits me hard, I was big into New Frontier as a kid.

According to LibraryThing, there are only two authors I own more books by.

Peter David had a very deserved reputation for his sense of humor, I'm not sure it's possible to get through any of his Trek novels without laughing or at least smiling at at least one of his jokes. But despite this, his work could also be extremely poignant when it had to. He was a real versatile writer that way. And while there were lousy novels (really, what successful author doesn't have the occasional dud?) the majority of his work was tier one entertainment and he is rightfully recognized as one of the best writers of Star Trek tie-in material. RIP.
