Pet (Cat) Insurance

I have a 9 ½ year old Russian Blue cat that I think might be suffering from diabetes. He has always been a big boy, but has been getting really thin since Christmas. I want to take him to the vet, but I know that it is expensive to treat a cat with diabetes. So now I am thinking about getting pet insurance. Does anyone know of any good pet insurance companies with low rates and a low deductible? I don’t want take my cat to the vet to verify he has cat has diabetes until I get the insurance (that way they don’t disqualify my cat or raise the rates for an affirmed previous condition).

Call your vet's office and ask if about pet insurance. I'm sure they could give you some information.

Yeah, give them a call and see if they have any recommendations. Then go call the insurance company. It's possible the company might require an examination, so, if your suspicions are correct, it'll be disclosed anyway. But it's worth finding out.

Some insurance companies will not start to insurance cats after a certain age (usually 8 or 9). If you insure a cat while young the insurance will continue though out its life but I think it might be too late for your cat.

I didn't insure Miss Chicken because nothing related to her congenital deformity would be covered. If she was injured in a fall the insurance company could blame it on her only having three legs, some with things like arthritis treatment.

I might start insuring my two male cats soon though my sons and I are talk about simply banking $100 a month in our own cat fund.

Yea, the vet office was called. That is how we found an insurance company with a $1,000 deductible!!! We have also considered Purina, but it does not cover cat food. If our cat has diabetes that will require a special diet and that can get expensive.

Um, don't know where The Badlands is but there's VPI in california-they may work nation-wide.

And you're right not to have the vet look first-they don't cover pre-existing conditions.
