If one is using the traditional theological definition of the former, you're quite correct: There is no such thing as "personal canon." I've not denied that; as a matter of fact, I've gone out of my way to make certain I differentiated between the two in this discussion, since the broader use of the words can indeed get one called for imprecision here.
On the other hand ... the fact that numerous people of intelligence
have a personal continuity means that any statement to the effect that such doesn't exist is at best inaccurate.
