i have a programme on Vista that every time i run it, it asks me if i want to allow it access or not. how do i stop it from asking? it never used to, but since my HD was reformated and i reinstalled, it keeps asking.

Welcome to UAC.

Here is a guide which tells you how to disable UAC for certain applications, scroll down to "How to Disable UAC for certain applications only."

Of course you can simply disable UAC but that would leave your system more vulnerable to malware.

I've heard the UAC in '7 is less intrusive and more sensible than Vista's, but I'm guessing disabling it would work in the same way - but of course re: malware, on your heads be it.

Not sure I would want to disable it. Just prevent it from asking permission every time I want to start an app.

Of course, I'm assuming it'll be the same with the retail version as opposed to the RC. I've yet to purchase the official version.

Do you s'pose it works the same for W7?

It should, Microsoft has updated "Application Compatibility Toolkit" to work for Win7.

The only thing they have done is lower the security level down from the Vista default, that's it. Sure it's less annoying but its also useless as a security feature.

Sophos did some testing and found UAC only stopping two out of ten malware tests in Windows 7.
