Pepsi/Mountain Dew "Throwback"

I looked for Throwback today and couldn't find it. :( Hopefully their website will tell me which supermarket around here carries it....

I wish they'd change the name, though. Pepsi Retro sounds much better.

I might try Pepsi Throwback if they do, but right now the whole thing just seems like a marketing gimmick. I mean, if the throwbacks *taste* better, then that's a fine reason to buy them. But I wouldn't do it just because of some misbegotten crusade against HFCS.

The crusade against HFCS may be misunderstood, but definitely not misbegotten. I mean, unless we think childhood diabetes is a good thing.
One lump, or two? If it's a Pepsi, that would be 7 1/2 lumps. Disease in a can.

It's not quite that bad. I think you'll find quite a lot of people who drink plenty of the regular stuff and are not diabetic. And besides, wouldn't actual sugar be just as bad in that regard? :vulcan:

^ No. HFCS has a higher glycemic index. In essence, it's better at getting you fat that sugar.

Actual sugar would be bad, but in studies they've found that the High Fructose content tends to do bad things, because it's high in fructose in comparison to normal sugar. You could wiki it and read up on the health studies they've done, I don't want to turn this thread into an HFCS debate.

Me, I just don't like the taste. I did notice that when I moved here and drank the normal amount of soda I always have, I started getting headaches and not feeling well. When I cut out sodas made with HFCS, and replaced with sodas made without, I haven't had that problem since.

We hit two big chain supermarkets and didn't see any Throwback products until we hit a Walgreen's of all places. They had tons of the stuff in their refrigerated soft drinks section. My friend and I picked up so many 20 oz. bottles that the cashier asked if we were going on some sort of roadtrip.

Did you try Target? I don't know if their Sunday ads are the same for the whole country, but they actually showed pictures of the Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback in the ad here today.

Ooh nice! I'll have to try the Mountain Dew! Never had it with real sugar before.

I picked up one 12 pack of Pepsi Throwback and one of MD Throwback yesterday morning. Good stuff. I'm probably going to pick up another MD 12 pack to take to work to drink instead of the HFCS laden stuff I get from the drink machine.

Why does everybody still have 12 packs of Pepsi products except Florida? Around here we only have 8 and 18 packs. That sucks.

Well, in my own defense, let me say that such pizza is all I can bloody GET around here. :p

The Prosecution will now rebut.

It is impossible there's not a local pizza place in your area. There's THREE within walking distance of me right now.

Of *you*, maybe. But you've never been here, have you?

Sorry. It's impossible. A local pizza place is just one of those staples even the most smallest of small stand-alone/non-metropolitan towns have. It's like a diner or nickle-and-dime store.

Unless you live on Little Domine Island, Alaska there's atleast ONE localy owned, real, pizza place in your area. Look in the phone book, drive around, there IS one.

I have never seen an 8 pack of anything in cans, and have only seen 18 packs of beer cans.

I only see pop cans come in 12 and 24 packs.

I know my neighborhood well enough, thank you. Unless there's one that spontaneously formed overnight, there is no such place here.

I see more than a small amount of fearmongering and unsourced statements in that article.

Now Coke needs to play catch up.

Most Coke contains HFCS, you're right, but Coke that has been hecto en Mexico is still made with cane sugar. If there is a Hispanic grocery store around your area, they probably carry said delicious beverage.
In Canada they use sucrose/glucose, so I've been buying it there when I visit. There was a place in Flint that sold the Mexican bottles, but they were boarded up last time I went by.

In Bulgaria, not only was it made with normal sugar in glass bottles, but also by using spring water. That was the best Coke I've ever had.

It's because HFCS, when it gets passed through the liver, becomes a toxin.

Indeed. :vulcan:

I really wish I could get in on this discussion, but the only thing I drink is Diet Coke. The only thing I have to offer is that I wish they'd return to sweetening diet drinks with saccharine instead of aspartame. They still sell TaB, but it's really hard to come by nowadays.

Don't even get me started on things sweetened with Ace-K and Splenda. If I wanted something that tasted like sugar, I wouldn't be drinking diet.
