Pepsi/Mountain Dew "Throwback"

Sugar tastes better. Through and through.

Not to me, it doesn't. At least not in Pepsi.

I tried some of the throwback stuff today. Yuck! Vile, vile stuff. Tasted awful. Had a worse aftertaste than regular Pepsi ever did. I'll never touch the throwback crap ever again. Almost puked when I tried it. :klingon:

I got some yesterday. Got to say I didn't think the taste would be that great a difference. But it's still pretty darn good. :)

I finally found some 12 packs of both the Pepsi and Mountain Dew at a weird grocery store that I go to for other rare goods. I expect it to soon be all over, though.

I'm a big Dew fan, but I think the Pepsi enjoys the greater taste upgrade

Oh, give me a break.

You're talking to a person who thinks that mass-produced chain pizza like Papa John's is quality food. Remember that.

Dear god... can't we get this guy some help.:wtf:

 Point taken. :)

Maybe the problem was that I drank it out of a bottle. For some inexplicable reason, pop doesn't taste as good to me unless it's from a can.

Soda is best from chilled, glass, bottles. Both plastic bottles and those new "varnished" cans (which are basically lined with a thin layer of plastic) mess with the taste. But you are right, cans do it less than plastic bottles.

Well, in my own defense, let me say that such pizza is all I can bloody GET around here. :p

The Prosecution will now rebut.

It is impossible there's not a local pizza place in your area. There's THREE within walking distance of me right now.

Of *you*, maybe. But you've never been here, have you?

As for the throwbacks: I might try the Mountain Dew one. Or see if I can get ahold of the Pepsi in a can. But right now I'm not impressed. The whole thing seems like a fad.

Finally tried them both today. The Mountain Dew seemed much more different than HCFS Dew to me than its Pepsi counterpart. Both were good though. It was weird at first to not have the aftertaste in either one, but particularly noticeable in the Mountain Dew to me.

I'll have to stock up on this stuff when it goes away in two months. Hopefully PepsiCo brings these formulas on permanently, as the Throwback Mountain Dew tastes much better than the HCFS version.

All these years, I've thought my taste buds changed and that's why I hated Dew. I got a throwback one today at the laundromat, and loved it.

Hmm, I don't really like Pepsi or Mountain Dew. I hope they try this with other flavors of soda. I mostly drink Dr. Pepper and the "fruity" sodas (grape, orange, strawberry, etc.).
Though it's a seperate deal altogether, the shop I was at had 'throwback' versions of Fanta orange, A&W rootbeer and RC cola. In GLASS BOTTLES.

Now Coke needs to play catch up.

Absolutely. All I taste is "can" when I drink soda out of cans. As for the "throwback," it's about friggin' time. HFCS is shit.

Last time I was in California, I laid my hands on some of the Refresco Coca-Cola (bottled in Mexico using real cane sugar). It was like drinking an entirely new soda.

What about if it's from a fountain machine, like at a restaurant?

Word to the wise: if you're ever in Mexico or a Latin American/ South American country, they will most likely give you a pop in a bottle. Make sure to drink it through a straw, because they reuse glass bottles but their cleaning machines are sub-par by US standards.

Hopefully, if the demand is there, there will be a gradual shift away from HFCS (especially with all the negative attention it has been getting lately). Also, your teeth feel less slimy after drinking real sugar pop.

Personally, I think Coca-Cola got the recipe right the first time: glass bottles, small serving size, cane sugar, and cocaine.

I tried a weird-sounding one today, but it was pretty good.

It was the cola version of Oogavé, which is the only soda I've seen that's sweetened with agave nectar. It was closer in flavor to the Pepsi Natural than most other colas. It wasn't bad at all.

Most Coke contains HFCS, you're right, but Coke that has been hecto en Mexico is still made with cane sugar. If there is a Hispanic grocery store around your area, they probably carry said delicious beverage.
