Pepsi/Mountain Dew "Throwback"

Venardhi

In case you don't know, here is the delicious 411.

I have a 12 pack chilling in my fridge from my grocery run this evening. In approx 15 minutes I will open up a can of delicious real-sugar Cola the way it was meant to be.

Anyone else enjoying this retro pleasure tonight?

Nobody around here sells these things yet.

I might try Pepsi Throwback if they do, but right now the whole thing just seems like a marketing gimmick. I mean, if the throwbacks *taste* better, then that's a fine reason to buy them. But I wouldn't do it just because of some misbegotten crusade against HFCS.

It tastes better. My brother, who has no qualms about HFCS, won't drink the American versions because he hates the taste in comparison.

I can't find it yet.
A few weeks back, though, a local gas station started selling glass bottled, sugar sweetened versions of A&W root beer, Fanta, and RC.

Everyone that I've told these stories to, though, has said 'I hope Coke does that too'

The last time I drank a Mountain Dew I think either Reagan or GHW Bush were still president.

The Pepsi is definitely much better than normal varieties. None of that harsh chemical taste or the filmy feeling on your teeth. It is a bit more mild than normal pepsi flavor, not quite as sweet; I tend to drink diet, so the less sweet flavor is alright with me. Might be a bit less carbonated. . . goes down very smooth. Tastes a bit more like Coca-Cola than Pepsi normally does, maybe a bit more "spicey"?

Delicious.

Sugar sweetened colas taste better, there's a difference in the taste. An ice cold sugar sweetened Coca Cola is sweet, but also has less of the cloying sweetness than the HFCS type. It's hard to put into words, the carbonation, the flavor, even the after taste is so much better.

I like both the Pepsi Throwback and the Mountain Dew Throwback better than the usual varieties. If they keep selling them I will stick with the sugar versions.

Interesting. I stopped at the grocery store specifically to pick up soda today and didn't see either of these. I'll have to check back later this week.

They don't particularly stand-out on the shelf. The Pepsi Throwback box is the same blue color as normal pepsi, with a light blue logo. If I weren't keeping an eye out for it I might have walked right by. Even harder to spot the 20oz bottles.

hmmm, perhaps the growing popularity of things like Jones soda that use real sugar is finaly making an impact on the big cola companies

Pepsi Natural is a different flavor, milder with a bit more of the nutty flavor and less carbonation. I quite liked it, but throwback is better.

We've got a place here called "pops" that has hundreds of different types of glass-bottled sodas for sale. They have a Dr. Pepper sweetened with cane sugar. They've also got coke and pepsi, but they're imported from mexico.

Bleah.

I like Pepsi precisely *because* it's so sweet, and I don't like Coke...And I bloody well hate diet drinks.

Interestin'!

I haven't seen anything like this around me, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I tried both the Mountain Dew and Pepsi "Throwback" varieties yesterday. I didn't taste much difference on the Pepsi end of things (although it didn't leave the chemical aftertaste that standard Pepsi does), although the Mountain Dew Throwback is frickin' fantastic.

Sugar tastes better. Through and through.

Hmm, I don't really like Pepsi or Mountain Dew. I hope they try this with other flavors of soda. I mostly drink Dr. Pepper and the "fruity" sodas (grape, orange, strawberry, etc.).
