Side note: I always thought it was kind of weird that some of the signs in They Live actually showed things like MARRY AND REPRODUCE. Uh, what's wrong with that? We don't do those things, there's no more human race.

I interpret that as 'Engage in traditional family values'. Observe the status quo, keep things simple and predictable. Reproduce as if your duty, not your desire. Kind of like the way sex is described in 1984.

I mean, obviously it's not absolutely always a good thing to keep things as they were, but sometimes it is a genuine desire. The implication in the film, however, is that anything that the alien signs say is bad.

I might suggest that while it's not a good idea to always observe the status quo, it's just as bad to never observe it. To reject everything is just as bad as to accept everything.

I'm referring to what the inclusion of 'Marry and Reproduce' in the mind control messages of They Live was intended to represent, not passing judgment on anyone's life choices. There's nothing wrong with marrying and reproducing, but in the Orwellian world, they would want you to do it in a pleasureless, thoughtless manner. They would want you to just assume this is what happens in your future, not make a careful consideration of all your options and then decide it's what you want to do.
