I'm guessing the 10% giving it a 1, are haters who haven't even seen the movie, or purists. (Sigh), such is the world today.

I don't think we have enough votes for any statistical meaning.

Plus, most of the votes are probably from people who haven't seen the movie yet.

I voted 10...:bolian:

232 votes? Have that many people even seen the movie so far? Is this supposed to be the combined number of participants from the Sydney and Texas premieres?

Oh, right... I forgot that people are giving the movie a ten or a one, despite not having seen it (if you think the trailers were KEWL you give it a ten, if you think that this movie sucks because the ship looks different and there's no Gary Mitchell in it you give it a one). IMDb shouldn't allow to vote on Trek XI no earlier than May 7 IMO.

I for one refuse to accept Star Trek XI's IMDb rating as "Canon" until mid-May or so! ;)

^ Since when does somebody have to know anything to vote?

This kind of talk only supports the terrorists.

Sure, there are not that many votes, but still it looks good with a rating over 8.:p

However, I guess it will come down, and end somewhere between seven and eight.

But somewhere between 1500-2000 people have seen the movie so I think and hope that most of the votes are real.

I wouldn't lend too much credence to IMDB ratings. Fast and Fatuous has a 7/10.

well I am sure that for its target audience it is a 7/10

fast cars racing through well known landmarks? check
Main actors scantily clad and staring seductively at each other? check
incredible death defying ending that makes the good guys extremely cool? check ;)

The only thing that was missing was a real plot.

It's certainly good for marketing to have such high scores, but as true gauge of anything, statistically, these self-reporting surveys are useless. Even if 10,000 people vote. I'm much more encouraged by what's popping up on Rotten Tomatoes. Those good reviews are gold.

Some of those who voted "1" were certainly either being smart-asses or there's the chance that some people accidentally reversed the scale. That happens in surveys. In other words, some of those who voted "1" may have actually thought they were giving the movie a good score.

Btw, the current ratings of the Star Trek movies are:

Star Trek XI - 8.4

The Wrath of Khan - 7.8
First Contact - 7.6
The Voyage Home - 7.3
The Undiscovered Country - 7.2

The Search for Spock - 6.5
Generations - 6.4
Insurrection - 6.4
Nemesis - 6.4
The Motion Picture - 6.2

The Final Frontier - 4.9

Meh, Nemesis is too high, The Motion Picture and The Final Frontier are too low. TMP: 6.4, TFF: 6.2, NEM: 4.9 would fit better. :p

Here is a great user comment by a non-fan named Forrest Douyere-Pate (Superior_Saturday):

"As a complete and utter fan of LOST I ventured down to Sydney on Tuesday for the World Premiere of Star Trek to feast my eyes on JJ Abrams new venture. I have never seen Star Trek. Not one episode, Not one movie. Yet the idea of JJ Abrams attempting to breathe creative life into a franchise drew me to the Sydney Opera House to meet my Idol and to see just what he can do."

He continues:

"As always I was blown away with the power and creative precision that JJ Abrams brought to the screen. As a final note I recommend this film for everyone who has ever looked to dream up the impossible, to take an idea that you love onto the next level, a feat achieved by the truly glorious Abrams and crew.
