Pegg's Scotty: Just Say No!

^^^ Well Happy Birthday to you!!! How old are you gonna be? Too bad Long Pond's not cloeser to Barryville to make those drinks happen but PA is a big state now. Furthest I get down that way is Thunderswamp Trail System -- what an awesome place that is. It's all good and next time I'm being an embarrassment to myself or anyone else please alert me...we should just have like a "red phone" for this...LOL

I'm going to be... Sigh 36

BTW yeah an Hour and a Half is too far to make you come out for Drinks Or Vice Versa.

Oh come on now....36 is not old....you ain't old until you're dead....then you're old! I'm hitting 38 in September -- which is unbelievable...but that's just a chronological age and doesn't reflect my youthful self.

I really thought long pond was a lot closer to me...there are so many ponds and eddys up there I get them mixed up.

nope, If you watch NASCAR you know where I am. Bout 20mins from Stroudsburg, 35 from DWG.

LOL did you say that in honor of the Puerto Rican day parade yesterday?

Engineers act all sorts of ways just like any other profession. What I think RBNN was getting at was that he/she has a predisposed notion that engineers are "professional" people. I think we can all agree ...wheather we liked Pegg;s portrayal of Scott or not...but he was hardly professional...not in this installment...but maybe next time.

That's not entirely fair. At no point did we see him being unprofessional while he was working. Sure he's funny, but while he's working he concertrates hard and gets the job done very well.

He's still cleaning reactant out of his ears with a towel, but he's paying enough attention to follow Chekov's plan for getting to Titan.

He did save the Enterprise from falling into the black hole.

Well I didn't think he was that funny anyway.... Yeah I let out a few snorts but I was not har har-ing up a storm over here with Scotty's lines.

Fine...he concentrated hard and got the job done...ok I'm agreeing with that...and if I didn't know the orig. Scotty then I'd have no problem with Pegg...but I do know him and this Pegg guy ....it's like apples and oranges...doesn't even resemble Scotty in the slightest.....which brings me to a lack of professionalism I felt was displayed on his part. That may not be the popular opinion, it may not be "right" either...but this is how I saw it and I didn't like what he "did" to the role...I understand making it your own...but this was quite a stretch here. I've said this quite a few times but I like to repeat myself...this Scotty was a coked up and caffienated verision of his former self...and I didn't like it. It was actually a tad annoying (just a tad) I will say I loved the "giving it everything she's got" line....he did that quite well because that line conveys a sense of urgency and animation.

Well I would say it was a big deal to save Earth & the Enterprise from black holes...but Kirk did that too...so really it's becoming very routine this saving earth from black holes stuff...I think I could even do it now. :p

Well I can't comment on whether the new Scotty is like the Original Series Scotty because I don't know the TV series well enough and it's not something that bothers me. But I would say that what happens to New Scotty in this movie is enough to make anyone a "coked up and caffienated version" of their usual selves.

Also, this is a younger Scotty. By the time we meet him in the original series, he's probably weathered so many emergencies that nothing phases him any more and he's the laid-back engineer you know and love.

Yeah I just looked it up on the map and you're like at the very very end of the DWG and I'm at the tippy top -- technically I'm the upper delaware river. I love me some PA..I spend a lot of my time in Pike county proper. You know what...just in case I'm ever down that way I'm gonna friend you right now. I'm gonna friend you so hard that you're going to be sore...brace yourself....

Ah ha Trampled Damage...which makes sense because if your trampeling something...chances are it's going to get damaged...but anyway...are you planning on checking out TOS? Has this movie sparked your interest in it at all? But Scotty is coked up the moment that we meet him.... -- I agree with you about his youth and that is a huge factor for me...this is obviuosly a young Scotty....I just don't want him to be that way for the next film. We'll see if this JJ guy is getting the telegrams that I'm sending to him everyday. Do you think sending someone a telegram would consititute breaking an order of protection? I hope not!

Well, he's probably a little stir-crazy from being stuck on the ice planet too. Keenser doesn't seem to be much of a conversationalist!

I don't get to watch much TV at the moment, TOS is high on the list for when I do :)

Ok that would make sense...that he's all hopped up because he's been stuck on the ice planet...except that behavoir continues throughout. It just wasn't my cuppa tea...but he didn't like ruin the movie for me and I do really like the BK toy with him saying giving it all she's got LOL...so there is the positive in regards to Mr. Scott.

I think you're really going to love TOS when you watch it...just like the movie hooks you...the series does that too! I kinda wish I was watching TOS for the first time so I get to see everything for the first time again...

wolf in the fold

one of my favorite scotty scenes..
from a different episode.
he tells off a fool ambassador..

no you fool i will not lower the shields

Your refusal to comply with my orders
has endangered the entire success of this mission.
I can have you sent to a penal colony for this .

hmm with a little tweak..

well now you have done it scotty.
fox will probably send you back to delta vega

Nae means 'not', rather than 'no' anyway.

I should add a rider that it can mean 'no' in context but not as a negative on its own. No Scot would say 'nae' as the opposite of 'aye'. They would say 'no', or 'nah' or 'naw' but never 'nae'.

Pedantically yours

Doris

Telt as fuck.

He had potential to be more like the nuSCOTT. You can see glimmers of it. In fact, I wish Doohan's scotty would have been more like Pegg's.

GASP!!!..yes..I think PEGG is the better "movie" version of scotty. THERE! I said it!

Rob

::swats:: Rob, you don't have a sense of taste. We already know this. ;)

(And before anyone gets on my rear for that, Rob knows I love him anyway, even if he has the taste of a piranha.)

I thought Pegg played a just fine Simon Pegg with an accent. I think he didn't even come close to playing Scotty.

And get over the original's accent. Geez, even people living in Aberdeen still love the man. Even a language professor at the University of Aberdeen said, "He could pass." It's been what, almost half a century? Get over it.
