Pearl Jam

Ok, so I been on a Pearl Jam kick for the last couple weeks. One of my favorite bands of all time. Ten is on my list of desert island cds.

Surely we got some more Pearl Jam fans hanging around.

As much of a fan as I am, love all their albums, but IMHO, Ten and Vs stand head and shoulders above the rest of their catalog.

They are great albums, true. But my favourite song of theirs is Corduroy.
:D

I love Pearl Jam; a native Seattleite, the music of that time and place bring back nothing but wonderful memories or mosh pits, Docs, and Bumbershoot.
Also, Eddie Vedder came to my house when I was a little girl and made popcorn. :D

Couldn't agree more. Seminal albums.

I agree that they are seminal albums, but I do not agree that they stand head and shoulders above the rest of their catalog.

I think Yield is their best all round album, followed by the most recent one. Ten is easily the album I listen to least. I think they were quite immature then, and it really shows both in Vedder's over the top delivery of everything and especially in the echoey over production.

I much prefer Vedder since he has really learned how to play guitar and write songs as an individual rather than add lyrics to what Ament, Gossard and McCready have already written. Now some of his compositions are the most thought provoking and interesting on their albums.

Vedder's solo album soundtrack to Into the Wild is really bloody good too.

Obviously, this story requires explanation. Very cool!
Try to follow: he was a friend of the cousin of a friend of my older sister's. Her friend wanted to give her a good surprise, and so brought him over! I was only 9 or so, and was wearing lavender pajamas (the kind with the feet on and a zipper up the side), but I was still a rocking kid and knew all their songs. :)
The best part is that my sister was, coincidentally, watching a Pearl Jam video on MTV, and making fun of Eddie Vedder's dancing when he walked in! The poor thing was so embarrassed.

I feel so old....:D

When Ten came out I was quite a few years into my tokin' & drinkin' funtime lifestyle....

:D

Ten was brilliant, but they started getting progressively weirder afterwards. I'm sill wondering the exact cocktail of narcotics that lead to Vitalogy.

Ten is great, but I also love Yield and Riot Act. Actually, I think Lost Dogs is my favourite album, even though it's a rarities and b-sides collection.

I've seen them live...4 times. Last time they just kept playing and playing. The stadium management wanted them to stop, but they refused. The management turned on the house lights, and they still played for another half hour! :D That was an awesome. The only band I've ever seen where when they say they're having a great time and don't want to leave, I really believe them. Their hearts are in it every time.

Pearl Jam just personifies rock and roll to me.

Oh, you got it, cool! Amazing that a band can put out a 30 track album of B-sides, and it can hold it's head high amongst their actual album releases.

As to your opinion of Yield, i'm surprised. I would have thought if you didn't like that you wouldn't like any of Vitalogy through Riot Act.

T'Baio is very right about their live performances too, i've only seen them once, but it was an epic performance.

Definitely true there -- one of the reasons why I picked up the DVD, along with the scenery/imagery. Great film.

His work on Dead Man Walking was pretty good as well, I thought.

Cheers,

Pearl Jam is great. I saw them live when they toured with X as the opening band. What a monster night of rock and roll that was.

Ten and Vs. are definitely great albums. I'm kind of partial to Vitalogy myself...

I remember when Ten came out; it wasn't like anything I had ever heard. I became a big fan, even went to a concert way back in the 90s. But as I grew older and discovered other music genres, I lost interest. Don't hate me. ;)

Vs.
Ten
Yield
Vitology
Everything else

I love Pearl Jam, I was in high school when PJ, Soundgarden, AiC, etc were big and they influenced me greatly. Have PJs entire discography on my iPod.

I used to have a decent collection of live PJ concerts and demos on cassette tape, but I couldn't tell you what happened to them. CDs I think.

But what I've always wanted is more Temple of the Dog!

I've always wanted more Mother Love Bone. Apple is one of my favourite albums.

:( RIP Andrew Wood.

Pearl Jam is a great band, no doubt about it. My favorite radio station (when I listen to radio) loves them (plays a block of songs every night by them). They call them the greatest American Rock Band. While I'm not sure if I'd go that far, they're probably in my top 5 favorite bands of all time.

Ten is indeed a great album, but there are great songs off every album they have.
