Peanuts (2015)

I haven't watched or read any Peanuts since I was a little kid, so I don't have any real clear memories of it, but on a surface level I really liked what I saw her. It seemed to me to be a perfect evolution of the look of the old cartoons. I love that they had the comic strip style effects thrown in here.

Frozen made a billion dollars, if it was 2D it wouldn't make 3/4s of that. Just the world we live in.

I love the look of this. It seems to me that, at least from this trailer, that the 3D would mostly be used for depth, but that the animation itself would stick to one plane. Of course, I could be totally wrong, but that's the impression I get from watching this.

I hope the plot reflects something that might have happened in the comic strips rather than some ridiculous plot (like the Peanuts interacting with our reality, like the Smurfs) or some new villain story.

You could flesh out:

- Charlie Brown's trips to camp.
- Peppermint Patty should play a part
- Spike should be reunited with his brother
- Sally and Schroeder could argue
- Lucy could start her Psychiatric help business.
Sally and Schroeder hardly ever interact, so why should they argue?

According to this article, certain things will make appearances in this film, including:

- the wall where Charlie Brown and Linus contemplate philosophy
- The skate pond
- More of Snoopy's fantasy worlds, particularly his exploits as a WW1 flying ace.
Those WWI Flying Ace scenes in the Halloween special always creeped me out - and they're my favorite part of my favorite Peanuts show! I also like the part where Schroeder plays the WWI songs and Snoopy hangs around, listening, marching, etc. That's one thing I miss about the Remembrance Day ceremonies nowadays - they never play those songs anymore.

I'm glad the folks in this thread like it. I love Peanuts, and want this to be great. Hell, I named my dog when I was growing up "Snoopy". I haven't seen the trailer yet, but the first thing I read about it was this rather negative piece on Io9.
We had a beagle named Snoopy - but he was brown and white instead of black and white. The name fit, though - he loved to snoop into everything. One of the nicknames somebody else gave him was "The Inspector."

My niece enjoys the specials sometimes. One thing I myself find a little weird watching them now in that the kids run all over the place unsupervised. The kids spend Thanksgiving alone? And so on.
The kids were only unsupervised during the day. They were driven to Grandma's house (actually a condominium) by the parents - who we have never seen.

Actually, what I find weird is Woodstock enjoying Thanksgiving turkey. Of course, Snoopy was too selfish to share his traditional dinner with the kids!

Going into the video, I was expecting crap like "Garfield" or the "Smurfs." Actually, this looks pretty good. They managed to maintain the look of the characters perfectly.

At first I was against this movie, thinking they were going to ruin another part of my childhood but that trailer won me over. It captured that Peanuts feel for me, for both the animated movie and the comic strip.

I'm on board for this movie.

OMG guys, it's a teaser, not a trailer, and apart from the basic look of characters, not necessarily in any way representative of the movie. Remember how Trek XI was all about the construction of the Enterprise? Right? Yeah.

Say what you will about teasers, but a hook is a hook. The music, the animation (namely Snoopy's dancing), and the nostalgic feel has got my attention.

Yeah, the teaser was masterfully put together. Pushed all the right buttons. The people behind this project seem aware that playing the nostalgia card is the way to go. This makes me optimistic, and eager to see it.

The trailer is out.

It's hard to judge. The look is fine, the pop song is wholly inappropriate, and the punchline to two gags (Snoopy electrocuting Woodstock and everyone laughing at Charlie Brown in the movie theater) have sufficient bite to them. But, there's no sense of what the story of the film is; of course, being a year off, that's not really something that FOX needs to sell audiences on just yet. Right now, they're playing the nostalgia card, and the trailer seems designed to say to audiences, "This is the animated Peanuts you remember, but in 3-D CGI."

About the song... Given the segment of the trailer that it matches -- the Flying Ace in pursuit of the Red Baron -- I would've preferred a Royal Guardsmen song (or at least a cover). "Snoopy Vs. the Red Baron" would've been ideal, though I believe that Sparky absolutely hated the song.

Though the Red Barron was never shown in the comics, actually showing him in the film isn't surprising, given that they are going to show Snoopy's imagination. They came really close, after all, to showing the Red Barron in It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and there they did show his imaginary world in detail. I agree that the pop song is inappropriate, but I feel it's the marketing department's way of making trailers. Still think it wasn't necessary.

I like the movie theater gag. However, if I could have redid this trailer, I would have showed the kids outside the theater buying tickets as they used to in the comics ("one, please").

Aside from star Wars I'm looking forward to this more than any other film next year. What about Avengers? Sure it's fun, but I've seen them all team up in the first film!

Not sure how I feel about them actually showing the Red Baron, Paris and the doghouse "flying".
I definitely don't like it.

The animation style is pretty good, but I agree that the song choice was pretty poor. Not much else that can be judged until a more proper trailer is released.
