PC or Console?

This thread ought to liven up the forum a bit. :p

So what are your thoughts on this admittedly well-trod discussion?

When given the choice between a console version and a PC version of a game, which do you typically opt for?

Of the two games I have that are on consoles and PC (Oblivion and Mass Effect), I only have the PC versions since I don't have a PS3 or 360. But that is always open to change, so I'm curious as to what others look for when trying to figure out which version to get.

(Incidentally, the two games I'm thinking of in the near future are Fallout 3 and Prototype...)

It really does depend for me. Games that are aided by others... Xbox 360 all the way. So racing games, shooting games, GTA 4. My game playing is moving this way more and more. GTA 4 and Halo would be 360 only.

But some games PC still rules, basically anything that requires mouse movement. So RTS, strategy, building-like games PC still rules. I bought Tropico 3 on PC over 360... but admitedly 360 isn't out yet! I couldn't image Red Alert 3 on a console, whichh I got for the PC.

So a mix, but I tend to gear towards the 360 now unless the game is better on the PC.

Honestly, I'm more of a console gamer now than I am a PC gamer. It's a lot easier to keep up with the latest releases on consoles than it is on PCs.

I used to play games solely on PCs... at the time I thought consoles were lame and useless. But things change, I got sick and tired of having to screw around with drivers and patches and crap like that.

So in February 2007 I first got a PS2. I enjoyed gaming on it so much that in the fall of the same year I got a PS3. So yeah, I've been converted. Gaming on consoles is just much more convenient. I can also sit on my comfy couch and play the games on my 46" HDTV.

My PC days are well and truly over, i prefer to be sitting in a comfy chair looking at a big 42in screen rather than sitting at a desk with a 19in screen.

But that's just my preference now.

Of course the exception to that would be if a new Star Trek game was released on the PC, but it would have to be good, no more Legacy's types please, another Armada, bridge commander, Elite force or starfleet commands would see me back at my PC in a flash.

It really depends, but I still do most of my gaming on PC. For consoles, I tend to go portable these days.

I did buy a UMPC so I could game on the go, a couple years ago. It was pretty wicked, playing Diablo II on it. :D

I'm strictly a console gamer now because I'm not computer savy, and inevitably in the past when I've bought a PC game and brought it home, more often than not, it didn't run right, and for me to have a PC that would run the game, I would have to spend a LOT more money than I'm willing to spend on a PC.

When I get a console game home, I know that unless the game is actually defective, it's going to run on my PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii everytime without any adjustments from me.

Depends on the game but despite turning heavily into PC gaming between 2004-2008, Console probably wins for me. Plug n Play and less hassle than a PC but still fast pace FPS like COD are made for Mouse/Keyboard IMO though consoles have more than enough games to keep me busy. Also LIVE makes online play so much easier ;)

For those games based on board games and game shows, such as Monopoly and Jeopardy!, the PC is my preference. However, most of the games I like only come out on the consoles, and I haven't bought a new computer game in almost a decade.

I still tend to think of myself as a PC gamer at heart, but most of my gaming outside of WoW tends to be on consoles outside of PC exclusives. Mostly so I'm just lounging in a different room and in a different position for a change. :p

I started console gaming again when a lot of the PC titles I was interested in started migrating to the original Xbox. I also didn't have the money to keep a decent gaming computer at the time. I've done a lot of gaming on consoles, since, even after being shamed by my PC gaming superiors.

PC gaming can be a pain, but I'm still a pc gamer at heart. That said, I do have some consoles and use them regularly

Easy, PC...because I don't own a console.

Back in the day when I had a Mega Drive, PS, PS2 I did enjoy fighting games, platformers and driving games on the consoles. However, back in the 90s I got into strategy games and that is what does it for me. I also much prefer FPS and flight/space sims on the PC over the console.

Actually I can think of one game I preferred on the console and that was Rugby 07/8. Played both on the console and on the PC and the console controls did feel more natural over the PC.

Console all the way. I like the idea of a PC, but I don't like sitting in front of the screen using a KB/M, especially since I work using a PC. I also prefer the experience of games from studios like Insomniac and Naughty Dog, where there's so much attention to detail paid to making sure performance is great and animation is top notch etc. You never get that from PC games.

PC. I always thought Consoles were a pain in the ass that could only do one thing. Now they have ones that can function as blu-ray players and access mail and all that, so they're evolving, which is nice. The days of having to tinker left and right to get a PC game to work are over if you have a PC robust enough to play what you want. Also, PCs can be used to play games from 20 years ago...not so with most consoles (besides Wii virtual console).

I have to say, at 31 I missed the whole N-64/Goldeneye boat so playing a FPS with anything besides a keyboard and mouse is beyond my physical capability.

I'm a pc gamer first and foremost. If a game is multi-platform and comes out on the PC at the same time as the Xbox and/or PS3 version then I will almost always get the PC version. I mostly use my Xbox360 and PS3 to play platform exclusive games.

So yeah it was a no brainer for me to pre-order dragon age for the PC :)

I'll go with the boring answer and say both.

For as long as I can remember I've always played games on both consoles and the PC equally. The PC is just another, admittedly more expensive, console to play games on to me.
