PC/Console Games You're Looking Forward to

^SDK?

*sigh* I wish i knew game lingo....

Is Mass Effect any good? I always see it at my local video store, and always mean to hire it to give it a whirl but never get around to it.
If you're able to ignore the major technical issues the game has (poor framerate, long loadtimes, horrible interface, poor vehicle controls) you'll most likely enjoy it.

System Development Kit. It's what people use to create mods and whatnot... I was really looking forward to at least try to write some Mass Effect scenarios just for the practice, but no go. :(

As for the game itself. Well, I love the world. I'm tired of Fantasy RPGs and Mass Effect is basically a Star Trek game with original names. Yeah, there are a lot of technical problems and some of the gameplay gets awfully repetitive, but I got sucked in enough to play the game 4 times.
I'm going to grab the sequel book next month, I have the original soundtrack... I own the stupidly packaged collector's edition... yeah, I kind of love the game, despite its warts.

The PC version, its worth pointing out, has a completely redesigned interface (the item management is 50 billion times easier), vastly improved load times (the elevator in the Normandy zooms along  ) and... even though I actually quite liked the vehicle controls on the 360... more differenter controls. The squad controls, power management and weapon management are all merged into a single pause menu and you can give individual orders to your party members. Frame rate is of course variable based on your system (I forget the requirements offhand but compared to some other recent releases it's pretty good... I'm lookin' at you, Assassin's Creed). Runs nice on my system at 1920x1200 with 8xCSAA though ;)

Core 2 Duo E6600, Geforce 8800GTX, 3GB of Ram running 32-bit Vista. These aren't the requirements for ME PC though.

The game must look great though. :)
I'm waiting for a reason to pull a trigger on a new Dell XPS laptop. Dual 8800 GTs... in a laptop! Gyargh.

Gotcha. I actually got a new PC a couple of days ago (C2D E8200, GF 9600GT, 4GB of RAM) and it ME works great at 1280x1024 at everything set to high.

Been contemplating pulling the trigger on a new rig to play Age of Conan. I think I've convinced myself to wait for the new cards from ATI and Nvidia though.

As of right now, the game I'm most looking forward to is the newly confirmed Beyond Good and Evil 2!

Oh and of course Half-Life 2:Episode 3 and Fallout 3. Though to be honest I'll probably wait till Fallout 3 is in the bargain bin. I'm cheep like that when it comes to most PC games.

Ah, then you beat me in a lot of areas! I built this PC a little over a year ago and I've been thinking about upgrading my CPU recently, but it's hard to justify it since everything I play still runs well with high settings. But having a quad core would be nice...

^ I was considering getting a quad core, but then I realized that I don't actually need. Even my previous PC (Athlon 3000+, 1GB of RAM, GeForce 6600) was good enough for most of my needs (except for gaming).

I was loving Mass Effect, 360 version, I got close to the end, but it just getting really repetitive, it felt like I wasn't making a lot of progress, my only drive to go on was to sleep with the chick. I put the game down and I'm trying to find the motivation to pick it up again.

Hmmm...i'm feeling that I may need to hire this based on the info provided. Just stared playing Halo 3 despite owning it since the day came out. I'm very much addicted. Is it as good as COD4? Hell no. However it is still great fun. Although I do find the aiming controls a bit clumsy, especially when using the scope.

Furthermore, I recently went to the Game On expo where I discovered the Burnout series! How have I not played that before???? Total awesomness.

Also played Goldeneye on 64, Mario Bros and Mario Kart on Snes and the original Donkey Kong!

Good times were had!

The last hour or two of the game is thoroughly awesome...

I did the 2 main planets, got the mission to go to that third place for the council guy or whatever, but I stopped and was doing all the side missions to level up and stuff. I got pissed off at the flying things in the last room of the moon mission to get the special class, that's when I put the game down.

Play on casual and just stick to the story?
If you're not worried about achievements, you can probably have an enjoyable experience doing the main story only on an easier level. You'll miss a lot of the side stories (all of which add up to a "B" story to put it in TV terms), but those missions get fairly repetitive.
Like another JRPG I'm playing now, Mass Effect is a very customizable experience and you can change difficulty on the fly. :)
