Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

Peck and the writers have successfully reframed the character as a contemporary individual, not an endlessly-repeating variation on a 1960s notion of how to handle being different

This is the critical aspect for me - the reason that SNW works it is of the now and for a show to continue to be successful it has to reinterpretate the characters in such a way.

I like how the people here exclude major aspects of a post just to intentionally misinterpret what someone said.
In fact, the original board rules encouraged posters to quote only that portion to which their reply was a response, rather than quoting the entire thing:

original board rules said:
  • When quoting another poster please don't quote the whole of another message, but only the relevant parts. As a general rule, posts should contain at least 70% original material.

If a statement is unclear without the context of the rest of the post, is that really the fault of the person responding?

Good to know this is another garbage forum, complete with asshole moderators.
We do try. :techman:

C'est la vie.

Off to find another one.

So Kirk is the youngest first officer in starfleet ever? He doesn't look that young. I guess 40 must be the youngest by 2259.

Kirk is only 40 in TMP if that says anything.

Shatner still looked young in tmp. Wesley looks about that age or just a little younger. Thing is I'm surprised they didn't get a younger actor. When they start to fill in Kirk's 5 year mission Wesley will be in his mid to late 40s. Kirk I believe was much younger when he first took over the enterprise.

As long as I dont think of him as TOS Kirk, sure he looks young.

And Shatner was 48.

I know you're of the opinion ST:TMP takes place 2 years after TAS - circa 2273/4; but yeah, for myself it takes place in 2279, 10 years after TOS ended (IE Captain Dekker after taking command from Captain Kirk got a 3 to 5 year mission before returningto see the 1701 get its refit.);)

2379 is 110 years afterwards. ;) I know that's a typo, I'm just having some fun.

I just go where the preponderance of the evidence takes me, bolstered by the Paramount-Okuda materials.

Both he and Ethan are at the perfect age to portray Kirk and Spock post TMP that's for sure if they ever did a series detailing Kirk's second five-year mission.
