Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

I appreciate the actors efforts, but Im just not feeling it..... at all.

Wesley is very wooden in his delivery. Unlike Anson Mount (or Shatner), he has no presence or natural charmisa. He doesnt strike me as handsome. He doesnt have any swagger whatsoever, which at least Chris Pine was able to emulate. Being uber skinny doesnt help, he seems nerdy? And thats compounded by the fact that he really does look just like Jim Carrey. I keep expecting him to say at any moment "Aaaaall righty then!" with a huge flashing grin

A million times over I would have preferred to have seen Vic Mignogna as Kirk playing against Anson Mount. Those two together would light up rooms together... hell entire decks would have been electrified

Mignogna was horrible. hard pass. Plus he’s 60.

Wesley isn’t that skinny. The internet has him at 172 pounds.

Shatner as a young man (once again)

‘just like’…

I challenge you to put a picture of Wesley and Carey side by side and then go through the similarities one by one.

Aside from both having two eyes, two ears, a mouth and a nose you’re riding a horse to nowhere.

Fair enough if you don’t like him but if you think Wesley looks ‘just like’ Carey then you need an eye check-up.

Yeah.... I've never understood the whole Jim Carey comparison.

I think he looks pretty good. I can buy him as a young Jim Kirk.

My immersion is ruined. It looks like a soundstage!!!! :)
Of course it's a Soundstage! The only kinda dog allowed on the Enterprise is a Beagle.

*crap, that sound have said "I've never understood the the whole Jim Carey comparison."

If I've asked this before, much apologizings, but...

Has William Shatner weighed in on Paul Wesley's performance in any way?

I know Shat had given his blessing to Chris Pine back in the day, but has he also done so for Wesley?

To be honest, Anson Mount is really the only Nu Trek castmember who actually looks like his TOS counterpart.

Despite playing the role completely different than his TOS version.

The Carrey resemblance is there to an extent, I can see why many said that. He doesn't come off like Shanter, but more importantly, people just want him to put more exuberance and personality into the role. Pine nailed that, without imitating Bill.

It doesn't have to be a one to one match, because objectively and honestly barely anything in SNW matches TOS.
