I've been thinking about this a bit. I don't give a shit. There may come a time when they decide to reboot TNG and cast someone who isn't bald as Picard, isn't British and doesn't know Shakespeare. Stewart's Picard is my favorite Trek Captain...always will be and I won't give a shit. It's just a TV show. The Wizard of OZ movie we all know was actually remake of a remake of a remake....and more.... As long as the storytelling is good, I'm good.

For the most part I agree. I'm all for a reboot, and I think reboots are as common changing actors and neither fusses me as much any more. If Trek reboots then I'll try it out too.

Kirk will do absolutely anything to make sure he and his crew survive. That can have drawbacks. The man that cheats death might not have been willing to accept the time-crystal's predictions on Boreth. Kirk's ego and survival sense is bigger than prophecy. So they both have their plusses and minuses.

Kirk probably would have accepted the predictions for exactly the amount of time it took to secure the crystal. He’d already be plotting his way out before he beamed up.

A lot of people in our society and the media don't seem to understand what a reboot is.

A 'reboot' means to do the same exact show, but with different actors, and to some extent, 'modernize' the plots, like how they remade Battlestar Galactica (a perfect example of a perfect reboot). For example, you put Kirk on Kirk's Enterprise, its a reboot. You put Pike there, its not (its technically a 'prequel').

Shows based of the universe of another show are called 'spin-offs'. All-in-the-family was a great reference, because it has the record (or did - it might have lost it since) of the most number of spin-off shows on record. Happy Days also had a few.

Not to be confused with 'crossovers', because while I suppose technically you can count the very first show aired in any number of cross-overs as being the 'main one', and all the rest as 'spin-offs', the shows aren't designed that way from the start. They were connected later, to get cross-pollination of viewers, and often even steps on previous lore to do so. A good example of that is how ABC did this with all its 'Hits' during the 70's (Charlie's Angels took the Love Boat to Fantasy Island, etc.) One of the worst crossovers recently was Bones/Sleepy Hollow. Connecting those very different shows was just WEIRD. I think Warehouse 13 also connected with a bunch of other Scify shows, but once again, just crossovers, not spin-offs.

Lastly, reboots are generally hated by fans. To be honest, I hated TNG when it first came out - I wanted more Kirk & Co. But I grew to love it. And I know I just contradicted myself by calling TNG a reboot, but that wasn't a series reboot, it was a franchise reboot, which is different. Sequels, when made well, are usually loved by fans... emphasis on 'when made well'. Most companies don't know when to stop milking the cash-cow and love turns to hate.

My take on Wesley...
As others have said, Wesley has much of a Jim Carey vibe to his look. Even his voice has similarities . I think the actor will grow on me, but need time. Honestly no matter who they got, there would be a period of adaptation.

My take on the SNW Kirk character.....
I think ultimately they did a bang up job. The writers had to find a way to let Kirk and Pike shine in the same show, while showing how Pike's path was wrong vs Kirk TOS, without making Pike look like a bad captain.

Considering the balancing act, I think they did a great job.

I really like the Kirk that they portrayed....
Lots of out-of-the-box thinking, strength, leadership potential, while being respectful. This is very likely how he would have been as he moved up the ranks. I mean he had to have known how to work within a chain of command and within the framework of his duties. He made his case, was intelligent, reasonable, and got stuff done. He backed off when needed. He overstepped boundaries, but only to the point of bending, not breaking the ultimate vision.

They put a brief display the potential synergy between Kirk and Spock without removing from Pike and Spock's relationship.

Can you imagine SNW Kirk being Pike's #1 in the TNG era? Probably would wipe the floor with anybody out there .

That's my big problem they sold us on the Kirk we all know and love "he's a pain in the ass," "he's not afraid to break the rules," "he uses his charisma," that's Jim Kirk! Then they slap us in the face with a wet noodle.

SNW Kirk is a pain in the ass. He is bending rules, not completely breaking them. I do believe he showed charisma. You could see Pike having instant respect and reverence for Kirk's abilities (ie. patch Kirk in on a secure line so he can hear the conversation). Considering the show is about Pike, there is a limit of how much Kirk could be here.

One more thing I will say is....
Shatner didn't need no damn shoulder pads ....

Not to mention Shatner wore an obvious girdle through most of TOS. He was in decent shape towards the beginning of the first season, but got very obviously rounder and softer in the short time that followed.

Of course I realize its part of the costume design. Was trying to be funny, as opposed to making a point. Wesley definitely needs it IMO.

For Mount, they should adjust it or something. I don't like the fit of his uniform when he stands in some poses. Anyhow, I'm really nitpicking here.

Almost none of the more popular actors coming out of the 50's were in "shape" by today's cut/buffed standard.
(which BTW wasn't a "thing" until Arnold & Sly started doing their movies in the 1980's)

A few were in very good shape like Ricardo Montalbán, but that kinda body style was considered a Beachbody back then and wasn't at all popular with what was coming out of mainstream Hollywood.
(folks called it 'musclebound' and it was considered somewhat grotesque)

Shatner WAS considered to be very desirable, but obviously having a steady job meant he could slack off by the third season and his gut did grow.
But, if you look at his pic's from his TJ Hooker days, you can see that he dropped the weight again.

Jim West didn't put on too many pounds even when the two TV-movie reunions were made 10 and 11 years later. Robert Conrad was famous for doing almost all of his own stunts in the original The Wild Wild West and was still in pretty good shape a decade afterwards.
