"Paul" trailer - Simon Pegg, Nick Frost

Yahoo! has a new "exclusive" trailer for the upcoming film Paul, starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Seth Rogan.
Two sci-fi geeks who embark upon a pilgrimage in a RV to the center of America's UFO heartland: Nevada's infamous Area 51. While in the middle of that desert, the two friends encounter a fugitive alien by the name of Paul. Somewhat reluctantly, they embark upon an adventure that will change not just their lives forever, but also the lives of the friends and enemies they encounter along the way.
I hope the final film is more entertaining than the trailer. When I first heard about this film, it sounded like a sure comedic win to me, especially with Pegg and Frost headlining. This trailer, though, didn't amuse me in the slightest.

I've got a feeling "EDGAR WRIGHT ISN'T DIRECTING THIS" will be posted a lot in discussion of this movie.

Paul reminded me a bit of Roger the Alien from American Dad! ;)

Especially that final scene with him dressed up as a cowboy.

As for the trailer itself, kind of meh. That aforementioned scene made me smile. I'll admit, this doesn't really seem much to be judging the movie on. While it doesn't impress me that much, a part of me wants to look forward to this. With Simon Pegg and Nick Frost it should be comedic gold. Right?

Nick Frost, waaaayy overrated. Seth Rogan, waaaayyy overrated. Pegg too, but not so much.

Color me uninterested. At first I thought this was the final entry of the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy but thankfully it is not.

Same for me which is a bad thing. I can't stand that show.

I want another Edgar Wright directed film with those two.

"Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead" are epic!

We'll see. If the script isn't up to par, I doubt even these two can save it. As Captain Mickey points out, it's a pity the film isn't directed by Edgar Wright; reuniting Pegg and Frost for the first time since Hot Fuzz is going to lead to a lot of expectations that Paul may not be able to fulfill, if this trailer indicates its quality.

[...] Seth Rogan, waaaayyy overrated. [...]
Agreed. I can't stand him.

Is the same trailer that was out a few weeks ago? As that looked awful.

I dare not watch it again.

Pegg and Frost are great, and I love Kristen Wiig, but with the extremely weak trailer and Edgar Wright not directing, I'm going to wait and see on this one. Hopefully a better trailer that actually makes the movie look somewhat funny will come out soon.

This looks good to me and I will see it. But on DVD which is how I view about 99% of my movies.

I have to concur with Pyscho Pere's assessment in his first post. I didn't laugh at at all during the trailer and I'm a big fan of these two. The cast is strong, and the film LOOKS good but nothing triggered anything for me. I do agree that the alien reminds me of Roger from "American Dad".

Looks good to me. I like all of the actors involved, and the appearance of Sigourney Weaver definitely peaked my interest.

Well, colour me surprised. Not only is this the only thread the search coughed up about this film, but nobody has actually posted in it beyond the trailer being released last year.

So, did anyone actually watch this, or did you all just cry that Edgar Wright wasn't directing and pass? I just saw it myself and man, I haven't laughed so hard at a film since The Hangover. That was truly brilliant. Enough nerd homages to make your brain explode in a fangasm frenzy, and hi-fucking-larious to boot. Pegg and Frost nail it, and Rogen is perfect as Paul.

And really? "I don't like American Dad, so because Paul bears a modicum of a resemblance to the character of Roger, then I'm deciding I'm not going to like this film even though I've never seen more than a 60 second trailer, it's not an animation, and Seth McFarlane had nothing whatsoever to do with it at all" Please.

I saw it when it came out. I think I wrote a short review in the "Movies Seen in 2011" thread. The long and short of my opinion was that I enjoyed it, and it was funny, but it wasn't nearly as funny as the Ed Wright-Simon Pegg collaborations.

Pretty much this. Not to say I didn't enjoy it—it was hilarious in a number of places—but Wright adds a little extra something Paul lacked. Still, it was well-worth the price of admission.
