Paul Fix

Fix died in '83, and his last acting credit was an episode of Quincy ME in '81. He'd've MAYBE made it to TMP but any further movies would be sans Doc Piper.

BTW, I just noticed that Fix appeared in the 1972 giant rabbit tv thriller "Night of the Lepus" as did DeForest Kelley. Yes it took TWO Starfleet Chief Medical Officers to fight off the giant bunnies that year!

He was one of those consummate character actors from the 50's and 60's.
I've seen him in so many old "B" movies from the 30's and 40's I've lost count.

A little casting irony:

Paul Fix appeared on STAR TREK on NBC in the third episode of the series, as aired, on Thursday Sept. 22, 1966. The very next night (Friday, September 23, 1966), he guested on THE TIME TUNNEL on ABC as the character "Henderson" in the third episode of THAT series.

I thought he did a good job in his one-and-only trek outing, but there is just too little of him on screen to draw any global conclusions as to how he would have fit in with the rest of the cast over the next three seasons.

I always saw Dr. McCoy as the "father figure" on the show, so it was better to have cast DeForest Kelley than that Paul Fix guy.

In otherwords, I am happy with who we ended up with.

GR pitched the series as "Wagon Train to the Stars. Kinda figures that he would cast western veterans for some of the key roles. He was also a cop so cop show vets would probably have caught his eye as well. Dee Kelley had it covered both ways.

It was kinda hard to find any NON-western vets in those days. It was pretty much EVERYWHERE for a good decade or more. :)

For those posting some of the more unpleasant response, please let's NOT be nasty like that.

I don't want to read that kind of stuff, neither does most of the others. If you don't like an actor, it's fine to say so, but let's do it in a more dignified manner.

Thanks.

Could you be more specific? Because I know I have been nothing but lighthearted in my comments and haven't, frankly, seen any particularly disparaging comments at all.

Just scroll up a few posts and you'll see that her reminder was not in any way aimed at you, but at someone just a bit further up.

Even still...it all seems more discussional than anything else...not disparaging nor attacking, nor user-to-user detractional. I'm not seeing what Bonz was getting at. :(

I believe she was referring to Admiral James Kirk's first post, which I then complained about in this thread, which is tricky when we are supposed to comment on the posts rather than the posters. It was very disparaging to the late Paul Fix, and unpleasant to read in an otherwise interesting thread.

When I was a kid I loved the Rifleman. When I ever saw Micah in that new Star Track show I was psyched. The thought of whether he was a great actor or had a big part didn't even enter my head. I liked seeing him and enjoyed his performance. In the end that's all that was important.

that Paul Fix guy

oh my dear god :wtf:

Over react much? They guy's been dead for over 20 years. Even when he was alive he wasn't a household name. And Kelley is much better in the role and so was that John Hoyt guy. ;)

Casting coincidence #2:

That same third-aired STAR TREK episode, "Where No Man Has Gone Before", also had another Paul, Paul Carr, guesting as Lt. Lee Kelso.

That same Paul Carr also guested on that third-aired TIME TUNNEL episode the next night, "End Of The World" as Blaine, the young mine-gang boss trapped in the mine.

I gotta say, Paul Fix made no impression on me and seemed out of place in the part. He was the weakest link in WNMHGB, one of my all time favorite episodes. Fortunately, the rest of the guest cast was so strong, it more than made up for it. Kelso is so well developed that his death has force of that of a series regular.
