Patrick Stewart is writing a Star Trek book???

I probably wasn't clear... I was curious as to whether anyone outside the TOS cast/crew had written a "behind the scenes" style novel, and I note that every one you have listed is from that era.

I listed books that were "beyond TOS": the list was in regard to the movie era, which is what I'd assumed you meant.

A '"behind the scenes" style "novel"'? Novels are fictional. Do you mean a non fiction book?

Yes, I do indeed. Though, on reflection, I think many behind-the-scenes accounts have quite a large element of fiction to them...

Apologies for being unclear - I'm certainly aware of the movie-era novels, but I'm interested in the perspectives of those involved in TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. By post-TOS, I meant casts and crews later to that one, as opposed to beyond that TV show.

The DS9 Companion was terrific, the Voyager one less so, but they were not written by people who were members of the cast or crew of either series. I am not aware of any such books.

:)

I was answering your question.....

When I ask, "whether anyone outside the TOS cast/crew had written a "behind the scenes" style novel" and you list a member of the TOS cast, it doesn't really answer the question, does it? :D

I don't mean to be rude or ungrateful - perhaps the question was unclear.

I re read your question and I think you just phrased it wrong. You ask if their were any behind the scenes books on TOS and the movies and based on that question, I answered..

Let's recap: Is the question:

Are there any behind the scenes books written by members of the Star Trek cast and crew other than those written by members of TOS?

Such as?

I'm interested in the perspectives of those involved in TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise.

Certainly, there are hundreds of interviews in Starlog, Star Trek Communicator, Starburst, Cinefantastique, Cinefex and Star Trek Magazine, all of which give many actor and crew persperctives on non-TOS ST over the years. It's just that no one has collected them into a book yet. There was a "Comics Interview" collection, though, and it had some TNG and DS9 stuff IIRC.

The DS9 Companion was terrific, the Voyager one less so, but they were not written by people who were members of the cast or crew of either series. I am not aware of any such books.

There's a limited-run book on the scripting of TNG's "Yesterday's Enterprise" by Eric Stilwell, and I'm sure the TNG and DS9 memoirs will start rolling out when the new ST film makes ST general interest again. Rick Berman's said to be working on one, and a book on the episode "Sarek" (by its scriptwriter?) is supposedly overdue.

Whoopi Goldberg's biography doesn't mention TNG much and Gary Graham's book on acting is lean on ENT anecdotes. But Andy Robinson, John de Lancie, Armin Shimerman and JG Hertzler have all written or cowritten TNG and/or DS9 novels, and Bob Picardo and Ethan Phillips have done ST NF.

^ Yes. Picardo did The Hologram Handbook and Phillips did a cookbook.

The Hologram Handbook is non fiction...? Come to that, I'm not totally convinced the cookbook is either...!

^^Uhh, you're still using "novel" when you're talking about nonfiction books, and that's confusing.

That's because I was quoting my earlier post. I could go back and edit it, but that would be even more confusing.

Well, try comparing the different stories behind the writing of City Beyond the Edge of Forever, for instance. Roddenberry says he did the rewrite, some say Gene Coon did it, there's stories about Ellison eating plants and being locked in an office, debate over who was dealing drugs in the original script... The Captain's Logs book is quite interesting, because it offers a lot of diverse and often conflicting stories that official ones don't.

Wouldn't it be incredible if someone did! There was a book of "Star Trek Interviews" as I recall, but I suspect it's rather difficult to get a copy of these days.

Something to look forward to, then. I note Ashley Judd's biography mentions TNG. Apparently Naomi Judd cried when she saw her as a proper little Starfleet officer. Then again, she also apparently played "Ensign Mussler"...

Allan Asherman did the "Star Trek Interview Book" (Pocket), but there is indeed a MMPB collection of old Starlog ST interviews called: "Star Trek's Greatest Interviews" (HarperCollins, 1997), edited by Dave McDonnell. Interviews include: Lenard, Wyatt, Luckinbill (Vulcan's First Family), Carmel, Montalban, Davis (Nemeses), Alley, Curtis, Cattrall (Saaviks), Lansing, Garr (Assignment: Earth), Lloyd, deLancie, McDowell (Alien antagonists), Windom, Collins, Winfield, Butrick (Martyrs), Plakson, Bonsall (Worf's brood), Dame J. Anderson, Menyuk, Del Arco, Janssen (Alien friends), Goldberg, Forbes, Schultz (Starfleet Irregulars), Colicos, Ansara and Campbell (Klingons).

^^By "Anderson," I'm guessing you mean Dame Judith Anderson, since she played a character who was an alien and a "friend," and since I remember seeing an interview with her in Starlog. As opposed to John Anderson ("The Survivors"), who played an alien but not exactly a friend, and Barbara Anderson, who played neither. Or the various minor players named Anderson that Memory Alpha lists.

Hmm...a Stewartverse? Too bad he isn't writing a Trek book. Think at how awesome it could have been.

I can see it now. I bet it would be something like this.

I found that clip while looking around on the 'net a few months back. Very funny stuff. :guffaw:

So we would have Picard going round, beaming the clothes off of fellow female crewmen, by which time he's seen everything
... sounds good :)
