Oh, is it time for stunt casting or gratuitous crossovers?
If you want stunts, and if we all want stunts, I have it on good word that a CGI Evel Knievel is also set to appear.
Tell you what, if Jean-Luc Picard is the only crossover character to visit DSC all next season, I'm all for a one-episode guest-star visit. Picard is one of my favorite Trek characters ever, and if they could do it right (more than a cameo, less than a disservice to the other characters; meatier than a wink to the audience, less than a corruption of the character himself) that would be something else.
Now, if Stewart could do both that and Orville...I mean...isn't that what words like nergasm were coined for?

My only concerns there are that Stewart will ask to play something too broad to get away from Picard or that MacFarlane will be too precious about having Picard on the show. Stewart's an amazing actor: just give him a good role to play and the rest will sort itself out.

He is clearly planning on doing the show so he can sneak a "Orville" prop on the set for his friend Seth McFarlande which will be seen in a episode thus allowing "Orville" to stick it to the show in the ultimate prank. It's all in the subtext of what he is saying.

I think that particular issue is taken out of context or is an excuse for some different reason. If I remember correctly, what Discovery was offering was being compared to Dorn's salary for Nemesis. You can hardly compare a 1-episode guest star role salary (from a not very big name actor - in comparison to all of Hollywood, not Trek) to compare with a salary for a main character with 15-years experience in a mid-budget feature. I.e., just saying, DSC has the money to offer a decent salary, so I don't think they would have offered a pittance, I think there was something else here.

I really do not get all the cameo oppisition.
TNG had McCoy, Sarek, Spock, Scotty, and Majel as Troi's mother Lwaxana. Plus Dr. Pulaski.
DS9 had Picard (or was that Sisko in a crossover?), Worf, and Riker. Plus the Trials & Tribble-ations episode. And Majel.
Voy: had Sulu, Janice Rand, Barclay, Troi, and LaForge.
I am sure I am missing some. Point is, the other series were fine with it.

I'd rather he showed up on Legion than an incarnation of Trek which his character doesn't fit into at all.
I don't have any special need to see Sir Stew appear again as Picard in the franchise. My only need is for whatever would make him most happy, as he deserves it for all the joy he has brought us. If that means a cameo, fine. Or directing, fine. Or just going on with his life, fine. All power to him. I have no "the canon must be fixed" or some such need for the return of the old cast.

About Legion season one:
Professor X's wheelchair was pretty clearly present during a flashback.
That would be better for him than being on Discovery, even if the role was as Picard's great (3X) grandfather.
The only stunt casting it needs to do are roles or cameos from other established actors (say, Liam Neeson as an admiral) or what they've announced with Tig Notaro as a regular.
I believe that Stewart is saying 'whatever' myself.
For what? And as who?
I think that Discovery should be left to be what it is, and as Captain Picard would have said, 'If they're going to be dammed, at least let them be dammed for what they are.' MAYBE they can cast somebody from DS9 or Voyager in a guest role, but they should be forging ahead with what they're doing now (casting somebody like Tig Notaro as an engineer, Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, or perhaps some young actor/actress from a recent movie in a guest-starring role), and not have to be forced into doing cameos just to suit some fans who can't live without anybody from the previous shows being on it.

That's a good list.
And they were all arguably productive cameos, save expect for McCoy on TNG. That was extremely pointless. It didn't advance the plot or story at all. We still know Data's a droid, McCoy hates transporters and that Enterprises will always bring you home if you treat them like a lady. Encounter at Farpoint is strange.
I could give or take Picard on Discovery... but we know in the end, it's totally going to be
Riker that sets foot on the Discoship first!
Cameos are by definition brief appearances. James Doohan was a guest star in "Relics"; that was not a cameo. On the other hand, DeForest Kelley had a cameo in "Encounter at Farpoint."

Actually when the program shuts down we see a very old Riker wearing a "All Good Things" outfit standing on a empty holodeck. As usual Riker has being using the holodeck to spy on the past for how to behave and he wanted to check out that one time Picard did it as well. He walks out of the holodeck and then that also fades into a courtroom slash Holodeck where we see a even older Riker in a prision jumpsuit. Seems all his spying on all the other crews has finally caught up with him. Not content to let him be the peeping tom of the universe he was finally arrested. The jurors were just seeing evidence of his previous spying. Judge bangs a gavel and says "Guilty" and two Starfleet officers hull off a very old RIker to his cell.
