Paramount's Trek - How are they doing?

How do you feel about Paramount's handling of the Trek franchise over the years? Do you think they're done a good job? Just curious to know how people feel regarding the handling of the Trek universe.

Hard to really say as many people had their fingers in the pie over the decades. TPTB made a mistake in the 90's by pumping out series after series. CBS seemed to copy that mistake by pumping out Enterprise on Blu-ray while still in the process of remastering and releasing The Next Generation.

Paramount currently seems to have the right idea with sporadically released films. Not attempting to oversaturate the market.

The company that used to be called Paramount Television is now called CBS Studios, by the way. The film studio Paramount Pictures, which is now under a separate company's ownership, licenses the movie rights to Trek from CBS.

You're probably right, Bill. There was a time in the late 90s and early 2000s when you honestly couldn't turn on TV at any time of the day or night and find at least one Star Trek episode running. That's great for the hard core Trekkies, but those persons typically were buying the DVDs anyway(my own opinion there). The airwaves seemed saturated with Trek and, along with the (frankly) bland stories that often seemed similar to me, it was rather fatiguing.

Some people love to beat up on Enterprise, and there are some pretty legitimate criticisms too, but I believe the fatigue factor played at least some role in the failure of that series. Even Coto's phenomenal writing couldn't save that series near the end. Perhaps people were just tired of Trek after 17 years, or at least the kind that had been churned out during those years. As Conner Trinear remarked; "I think we just went to the well one time too many."

I guess I'm just generalizing and I'm not trying to start a 'Let's pick on Paramount' thread. I know there have been multiple players over the years. I would just like to know if they're planning something new series-wise, and if they may be planning to exert more control over the creative process.

Thanks for that information. I guess I over-simplified with the 'Paramount' moniker.

They have the right idea, but they had done way too much fan service. That's why 12 was not that it could had been.
