Paramount loses more than a quarter of its value, analyst believes they should "just quit streaming"

And yes. I'm not watching every series. If someone's into all of them, more power to them. But if they're not into all of them, but watching anyway, well, that's entertaining in a black humor kind of way. "I have to watch it all! I can't control myself! I have to watch it all! Oh no! I hate this! But I have to watch it all!"
Yeah, I cannot fathom watching every Star Trek episode, especially if I don't like some parts.

I tend to agree it's probably better to have 10-20 weeks a year with no new episodes to whet the appetite, but in fairness part of the idea behind a 52-episode year is that different ST shows will be very different in style and tone. In theory, this would prevent burnout, and possibly also mean that the entire subscriber base isn't following every ST series.
Well, I personally like having a month or so of no new television, period. Which wouldn't be possible if any show/franchise began 50+ weeks of broadcasting/streaming.

Even if there are new episodes of Star Trek every week, and you want to watch all of them, there is still the option of not watching anything new for a month or so. You can always catch up on episodes you missed.

You know what would be ironic?

If the franchise ends up back in the hands of NBC in 2026, which is in 2 and a half years... only slightly later than that article's estimate. Talk about coming full circle for the 60th anniversary...

What is likely to happen is P+ sells content to other streaming platforms like Max did with Netflix.

What’s interesting is that Cobra Kai didn’t take off until YouTube Red sold it to Netflix.

Very true. We might see it happen here. STAR TREK shows were on Netflix for a while.

Frankly, it's a much better streaming service than Paramount Plus.

Paramount as We Know It Has 2 Years Left, at Most — Analyst
A leading Wells Fargo analyst says that the company leaders can wait or get on with it, but a break-up is inevitable.

This sounds like Star Trek’s future could be uncertain?

I don't think so. The article specifically identifies Paramount Studios and CBS Studios as being gems that are still quite valuable. More likely CBS Studios continues to produce Star Trek even if its corporate parent gets divided up.

Well, what happened was not Max selling content to Netflix; it was Warner Bros. Discovery, Max's corporate parent, licensing streaming rights to Netflix.

Paramount+ would be unlikely to license such rights, since Paramount+ doesn't actually own Star Trek. Paramount Global, the corporate parent of both CBS Studios (which produces Star Trek in conjunction with independent production companies Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment) and Paramount+, owns Star Trek. The scenario here would be Paramount Global licensing streaming rights to Netflix and shutting down Paramount+.

Bummer about Prodigy, at least it sounds like they‘ll finish the second season. Presumably if no one else wants to air it they’ll probably do so on P+.

Someone in another thread mentioned that Paramount Plus will likely just keep 2 live action and 1 animated series, at best, going at any given time.

With PICARD finished and DISCO ending with the upcoming season, this prediction is holding true.

A shame about PRODIGY. That was a damned good show. Not even just a good kids' show. A good show, period.

Well, no, they won't. They're literally removing the existing episodes from P+. If Prodigy doesn't get another distributor, that's it, it won't stream anywhere anymore.

They never actually added the whole first season of Prodigy to SkyShowtime (the local version of Paramount+) in the first place. I've still only seen the first 10 episodes.

I guess if they finish the season then never air it anywhere is the proper way to avoid the sunk cost fallacy.

If we're lucky, it'll pop up on Tubi or Crackle or something. Or possibly still get released on BluRay.

Trek fans are pretty good about buying physical media (probably because we're on the older side), so that ultimately may end up being what happens.
