Potato pancakes, thin, dense, slightly burnt, made in a cast iron pan with each one the size of a plate and with home made jam on top: the way my German Grandma used to make them.

Since I can no longer get those I have to choose waffles.

Regular fluffy pancakes lack texture and for me are a distant third.

Pancackes, simply because waffles are potatoe things that go with your dinner and I refuse to hear otherwise.

Oh my, don't even get me started with waffle fries. Those are simply the best fry shape ever. I argue with friends all the time about the superiority of waffle fries. They are simply amazing.

I wonder why they called ‘em that anyway? I mean if there were these sweet things going round, was it just the shape?
I had seriously never heard of waffles till many years after waffle fries (which were to me known only as waffles)

Waffles! Particularly Eggos although I've gotten accustomed to store brand since the Eggo shortage (and also being poor). I am less of a fan of Belgian waffles because I prefer a smaller grid. The butter/syrup distribution just works better that way.

Someone said something about OCD... well, I have to cut my waffles along the grid evenly, leaving the middle 3x3 until the last (it's also generally the most syrup-soaked part).

Bacon (or sausage if no bacon is available) in syrup is food of the gods.

I will only eat pancakes at IHOP and even then I prefer stuffed French toast. And bacon. And an extra side of bacon.

I love pancakes!!! I'll pour the syrup on the pancake wrap it around the sausage and bacon then eat it.

Definitely pancakes. Waffles are way too dry and crispy. In fact I like my pancakes not quite cooked in the middle so that they are a little gooey tasting.

Also I don't like syrup (strange as I have a strong sweet tooth). I eat pancakes with peanut butter and jelly, making them into sandwiches. I try to do this with waffles but the peanut butter and jelly get caught in the holes and that drives me crazy. I like it evenly spread on a flat surface, not bunched up in little spots. So really it is partly my OCD-ness that keeps me from eating waffles.

Pancakes! I like waffles, but pancakes have them beat. I like the texture better on the tongue.

If I'm cooking, we're eating pancakes. I make yummy pancakes from scratch in almost no time, and clean up is easy as can be.

If someone else is cooking, I do love waffles. I like to make sure a bit of syrup is in each little pocket so that each bite has just enough sweetness.

But I'll gladly cook both and even more gladly eat both with lots of butter and syrup. This is why I need to diet. *sigh*

What are we talking about here? Actual waffles? Or things like french fries, but just shaped like waffles? Burger King had those in the 80's, they were called American Fries.

both. with bacon and a mimosa - maybe a couple. ;)

If you are ever in San Francisco go to Sears Restaurant on Powell Street. My girlfriend and I would go their on Sunday mornings and get their special recipe Swedish Silver Dollar pancakes and the extra large waffle with a ton of butter. And of course we'd both order Mimosas.

Pancakes absolutely. No wait, waffles definitely waffles. No I want to change my answer, it is pancakes! No, I take that back it is waffles! Well now that I think about it ...:brickwall:

Think of them as mash potatoe in the grid like shape thats sorta like a waffle

I love both, but pancakes beat waffles by a hair. There's nothing like a nice fluffy pancake (or three) doused in syrup.

I'm not talking about Potato Waffles, I'm talking about French fries in a waffle shape, like these
