What does Shrove mean? I've never heard of this day.
EDIT: Nevermind, I looked it up. So it's basically Fat Tuesday...except you're supposed to feel bad about it?![]()
Yeah, we have the same tradition in America. I've just never heard it called Shrove Tuesday before. It's either called Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras around here.Yeh Shrove Tuesday and the must have pancakes are a very traditional thing for Brits.
Shrove Tuesday is the last night before the beginning of Lent - when you give up something for 40 days (I think it ends at Easter). So it probably comes from the fact they wanted to stuff some carbohydrates in before it began.
I was wondering what to do for supper - blueberry pancakes with bacon it is!
