I went out with a bunch of friends to a pancake restaurant in town. Great fun and a great tradition. A was properly full after that dinner, ready to face Lent. 
Oh, not at all. I think it's an obligation to enjoy it, really. And if it isn't, it should be.
What does Shrove mean? I've never heard of this day.

I basically forgot about Fat Tuesday until about 7:00 at night, so it wasn't an exciting Mardis Gras for me. I wasn't planning on eating pancakes, but I thought about making crepes. Then I forgot. Oh well, always next year.

Yeh Shrove Tuesday and the must have pancakes are a very traditional thing for Brits.
Shrove Tuesday is the last night before the beginning of Lent - when you give up something for 40 days (I think it ends at Easter). So it probably comes from the fact they wanted to stuff some carbohydrates in before it began.
A British traditional recipe for the pancakes are:
2 Eggs
4 Tablespoons of Flour ( Plain)
Milk
Stur it all together until its a thin batter consistency, and let it rest for a bit. Then get a clean frying pan, add a little oil to moisten the pin, and put in one small ladle of the mixture on a medium heat (too hot and they will burn). Cook evenly on both sides. The first pancake is normally a bit naff, so dont worry to much.
Traditionally you have sugar and Lemon juice with it, some in Scotland have jam/preserve. Most burly adults can get through 4-6 pancakes at one go. They are usually rolled up on the plate and eaten with a spoon or fork.

Yeah, we have the same tradition in America. I've just never heard it called Shrove Tuesday before. It's either called Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras around here.
It's a good thing I was busy all day yesterday and didn't eat until 11 at night. I am on Atkins

We'll be sure to make enough for Mr.Trampledamage and MasterTrampledamage and MissTrampledamage - we actually did french toast for Christmas Brunch one year and all the nieces and nephews who usually cannot be bothered with eating on Christmas Day all tucked in! It was great fun - ya'll come!
