Palin steps down as governor

Sure, Obama was only in federal office for 4 months before starting his presidential campaign and runs his administration like he's a movie star.

He's the President of the United States.

Your old boy and his gal pal lost.
He sure wasn't my old boy. He was Colon Powell's. And he didn't even vote for him.
If she runs again in 2012, she'll lose again.
I agree.

And Obama's second inaugural will take place in 2013.

That is all.

That would be all. His inexperience is running us into the ground. Good luck.

You know, in 2012 he'll have 4 years as President...no one else alive aside from Carter and Bush Sr. will be able to run with that much experience.

Better start thinking of another tactic. Well, you should've thought of a new tactic a year ago when poll after poll after poll said that was a stupid attack since people don't give that much of a damn about experience anyway.

Was Hillary still getting smeared after Obama won the nomination?

Has Hillary stayed in the limelight? For the most part, no. Plain has, and actions against her have kept her there.

Are there tons of ethics complaints being levied against her?

Whitewater.

Are there sexist cracks being made about her throughout the boards?

There have been.

"Cankles" comes to mind.

But, again, H. Clinton has hardly been in the limelight as much as Palin has been since she lost in the primaries. Mostly because, well, she has done or said as much stupid shit as Palin has.

I mean, what's more noteworthy? A saggy bag of sinew in a pant-suit doing her job as SOSOTUS or some bat-shit crazy woman who's been made a figure head of the GOP to be an example of where they want to go going around and doing and saying things that make no sense and seem at contrast to what the GOP should want. (Power.)

Is it really comparable when Hillary goes on the campaign trail for Obama and does nothing of note to when Palin does an interview and can't answer the simple question of what fucking newspapers and magazines she reads?!

Or when Hillary speaks at a rally in support of Obama to when Palin does an interview and says she has foreign policy experience because a remote island in Alaska's waters has with eye-shot of it another remote island in Russia's waters and that when Putin vists America he has to fly over Alaska?

Or how about when Hillary, aww fuck it does nothing spectacular, and then Palin speaks at a rally and rambles like an insane person with a Word-a-Day Calendar.

The media is hardly "fair" to Obama, Hillary, or others. But, come-on, Palin is just an idiot.

She's done a terrific job in Alaska.

No, she's done basically nothing in Alaska and the elected officials of her own party can't wait for her to be gone.

She'll be spared the embarrassment of sitting in office and having her rejection of stimulus funds turned back by the legislature, anyway.

To be fair. In a state whose population is less than that of a moderately populated metropolitan area in the Lower 48, doing "baiscally nothing" pretty much equates to a "terrific job."

I mean, as long as Alaskans have a good flow of meth, beer and dog-mushing then they're pretty happy.

The snow is still falling, bless Sarah.

I agree. The conduct here, sadly, exemplified the point I made very early in the thread--that apparently, given that this is a woman, and a conservative, a whole other level of sexual, familial, and personal remarks are tolerated than would be otherwise.

Right, so, Chelsea Clinton goes up to Bill one day in the White House and says, "Dad! Guess what? I've got a date with this really cute guy, Jimmy!" Bill asks, "Not Jimmy Watson, right?"

"Uh, yeah, actually. Why, Dad?" Chelsea replies.

"Well," Bill says, "Your Mom and I were having some problems a while back, and I happened to meet Mrs. Watson and Jimmy is, um, your half-brother."

"Oh," Chelsea says, and proceeds to try to find a good excuse for calling off the date.

A few weeks later, she mentions she's going on a date with another boy, Bobby. "Bobby Smith?" Bill asks. Sure enough, it is, and sure enough, he's Chelsea's half-brother, as well. In fact, it starts to seem like every guy Chelsea meets just happens to be her half-brother. She decides to see what her mother has to think about it.

She finds Hillary and says, "Mom, what's with this? Every guy I meet, Dad say he's their father and I can't date them because their my half-brother?"

Hillary begins laughing, and says, "Don't pay any attention to him, honey! Your real dad is Madeleine Albright!"

Now, I'm not sure who originated that joke, but it probably wasn't Al Franken or Jon Stewart.

There would be humor in it if they had.

The sexism is quite obvious: if you can't see the posts describing the sexual services some people have said they want from Palin, you need glasses.

I must say I am very disappointed to see this behavior from fans of a show that depicts a future where humanity supposedly strives to evolve above that.
You don't have any moral high ground here. You've spread bullshit in here that is "very disappointing" too.

Clinton suffered so many sexist slings and arrows from the right wing it's not even funny. Comparing Palin's treatment to hers is ridiculous. Not even close.

As for Palin's "experience", I laugh. Heartily.

Basically she quit a job which was the equivalent of being the Mayor of Fresno. Her reasoning was either extremely stupid, or a lie. Should every "lame duck" just quit as soon as they begin their last term? By that logic, no one should ever run for re-election for anything.

If this is the best the GOP can cough up, they're in for a long national drought.

She has all the intellectual heft of a docent at the Kentucky Creationist Museum.

she has done or said as much stupid shit as Palin has.

Oh, she HAS?

Just kidding. I know what you meant.

Look, y'all. If she really is so incompetent, so stupid, so incapable of political success, then why diss her so much? Why not let her FALL, if you honestly think she cannot rise?

Is she really so repulsive to you? Does she truly frighten you so? Why waste your attack machine on a distraction, rather than using your weaponry against a truly THREATENING opponent?

Think about it....

Goodness, but that's a straw man if I've ever seen one.

You bring these inappropriate Chelsea/Hillary jokes up with the unspoken assumption that just because I'm angered with the treatment of Palin, that I must somehow be one of "those people" that supported the rude treatment of liberal women.

Yet you have not one iota of evidence to back that up; you simply went and made an unfounded assumption. Way to "spread bullshit," as one poster has put it.

If anything, you are proving one component of my earlier assertion: that women are subjected to far harsher, undeserved remarks about their sexual characteristics, their appearance, and so on, when they enter into politics than a man would be subjected to. Where on EARTH did you get the idea that I approve of those remarks you've cited that were against liberal women?

That's simply not true, and to try and pin them to me is a rather underhanded, intellectually dishonest tactic.

Because I do NOT approve of them. As far as I was concerned, Chelsea Clinton was a very polite young lady who did not deserve to take crap because of disagreements with her parents. And Hillary...I may not agree with her policies, but I consider her a formidable politician who should be taken on with the respect due to someone of her stature and NOT have to suffer personal, crude attacks that those that use them.

In fact, why is Trekker4747 endorsing what's obviously a pretty rude Chelsea joke?

With reference to the point upthread...did you guys really not see Garak's comment about what sexual service he suggested Palin perform, and the pages of immature egging-on from other posters after that?

Obviously women of both political parties have been victims of crude remarks.

The difference is, when it's a liberal under attack, it seems this group is quick to issue the deserved condemnation to those who say such degrading things. But when it's a conservative woman...you seem awfully quick to try and dodge the accountability for your own inappropriate remarks. It's as though you are not recognizing that these things are one and the same.

And yet the only time you suggest that link--that both acts are equally bad--you take an incredibly dishonest tack by painting your adversary as one who supports those cruel remarks towards liberal women when I have said NOTHING to suggest that and I do NOT endorse that. Which, I might add, in itself borders on an ad hominem attack against myself (or more accurately, an ad feminam attack!) and exemplifies the very behavior pattern I have called out.

You really are missing the point are you?

Liberals couldn't give a fuck about her (and some conservatives) she's irrelevant and a non-entity.

It's about elements that are acting like her shit don't stink and that she'd make some sort of uber President when there's nothing about her that suggests that.

Read the thread and it might actually sink in.

I didn't assume you supported that treatment of liberal women, I assumed you believed that that treatment of liberal women didn't occur. Because you said that Palin was being denigrated for her sex because of her conservatism, and that by implication it wouldn't have happened if she were a liberal.

I agree. The conduct here, sadly, exemplified the point I made very early in the thread--that apparently, given that this is a woman, and a conservative, a whole other level of sexual, familial, and personal remarks are tolerated than would be otherwise.

Emphasis mine. You quite clearly said that the one side was more sexist than the other. That, or you said conservatives won't object to sexism against conservative politicians while liberals will defend their politicians against sexism.

So, clarify now. Did you mean to say conservatives were too classy to make sexist attacks, or too chickenshit to defend against sexist attacks?

The difference is, when it's a liberal under attack, it seems this group is quick to issue the deserved condemnation to those who say such degrading things. My inappropriate remarks?

There's no sexism here, and cursing is withing the rules.

?

How in hell can you say there is no sexism in here. It's pretty blatantly obvious.

Calling her hot isn't sexist.

Depends on how you do so. Some of the comments about her in this thread are very blatantly sexist.

Saying she's incompetent isn't sexist just because she's a woman. There are plenty of incompetent women out there. She's an idiot, who happens to have a vagina.

On this, you and I agree.

Folks, let's all take a few deep breaths and spend a few minutes AWAY from this thread. I for one am not liking the degree of heat that I'm seeing in here. Take a few minutes, take a deep breath, and be calm.

If I have to, I will lock this thread for a little while to cool things down in here

Ok. Aside from Garak's wet dream, where's the sexism? Where's the "she's inferior because she's a woman" or "she can't do the job because she's a woman" angle?

Attack machine? A governor quits in the middle of a term, one that was a candidate for Vice-President. Also that are some questions of why she quit and you think the news should ignore it? Soon something else will happen and she will be forgotten as she goes back to whatever she did before entering politics. You act like we're afraid of her or something. She's a clown, nothing more. One that keeps putting herself in the news by going after comedy shows and other stunts that backfire on her. The fact that some Republicans, most likely her fanbase, consider her a serious candidate for President amuses me to no end. Let her run if she wants, hopefully one day soon the Republicans can find a decent candidate.

Sarah Palin doesn't scare me, she's done now and I think she'll fade away. What does scare me is that people as insane and unintelligent as her can be elected to higher office. Her rambling incoherent speech was only more proof of this and I hope conservatives take a long hard look at the people who are representing them. I don't like Mitt Romeny at all but at least he's an intelligent man who can speak clearly. Look to him, not this crazy person.

I'm going to sleep a whole lot better knowing this thread is all done. Any civil discussion seems long gone. Disgusting imagery, ridiculously angry rhetoric, and deleted flames makes this feel more like TNZ than Misc. Sorry - that's unacceptable.
