I have to say that this weekend I was motivated to do something like this, which doesn't usually happen to be honest. My range is pretty limited at the minute - I'm limited to simple things like trees and countryside, while I find faces very hard to do.

I'm happy with sticking to black and white for now, though.

OMG, there's so much amazing work in this thread, I feel a little weird about posting my stuff.

Lately I've been teaching myself how to paint digitally using GIMP.



These were done using Prismacolor Non-Photo Blue pencil and Alvin Penstix India Ink markers. I then scanned them and cleaned up the linework in Inkscape before using GIMP to lay down colors. You can click on them to see them bigger, and I have a DeviantArt gallery where you can also see the originals.

I hope you like them!

Given my state of unemployed-ness, it's about the best option I've got. That said, it does most anything Photoshop does, it just doesn't do it quite as nicely. It's an absolutely phenomenal piece of free software, considering how much Photoshop runs for.

I have to make it first! I'm working on the last two pieces to this set now. The Tin Woodman's maybe gonna take some time, though; metallics are hard.

I do have a lot of older stuff lying around, but I feel kinda shy about posting it. My hands shake, and I feel like that really shows under digital scrutiny. I dunno, maybe I'm just being weird.

That's great stuff you've got there. I see no hand shakiness whatsoever. It's all good, but my favorites are "Diana vs. The Hydra," "She's Alive!," "Socialite," "Cinder Cat," "Steampunk Elf," and "Turtle." You do really well with comic book characters; have you considered going into the business of illustrating comics?

I've started a couple of personal comic book projects, but there's a big difference between being able to draw a comic character, and being able to tell a story visually. The latter is something I need more practice at.

It's great to hear you say that; one of the major problems with contemporary Comic Book artists is that they have no clue how to tell a story. They should all be studying Will Eisner and Jack Kirby and so forth. Nevertheless, you should think about submitting a portfolio to Dark Horse or something. And there's always commercial art while you're working on your storytelling skills.

Some really exciting news that I forgot to mention. Someone bought a print of my Scarecrow piece last week! I've never sold a piece of artwork before!
