Painting

I just finished a three day project, but I have no idea what to call it. Any suggestions:

You are prolific, blab! I've personally never been good with titles. I haven't titled anything since I was about 14 -- back when I thought pretentious titles like "Reflections on Earth in Grey and White," or "Frustration: A Portrait" were deep.

Maybe I should just start calling it based upon how much paint I get all over myself.

This would be "Bloody hell there's even some blue in my hair number 5"

 Maybe that's how I should start titling my recipes!

Here is a gallery of some of my paintings. I have not put anything up for over a year however, so I need to add some more of my recent work.
You have some really impressive pieces in there!
And TheStrangeQuark, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Copic markers. They are expensive as hell, but they are worth it. Have you used the airbrush attachment for it? I love it.
They are the best, aren't they! I've actually never airbrushed anything in my life, but I would LOVE to try it! I've never gone to art school or taken art classes, and while for the most part I don't mind that fact, I do think that I would have more opportunity to explore different media were I to take a class...or maybe an MFA! (I can dream.)
As I said, I do almost all my work in Copic as of late, those, and Uniball pens. I always have a half dozen of those prized inkers floating around the bottom of my bag. This is a silly sketch I did in college -- during some lecture class or other. I always learn best if I listen and doodle as opposed to taking notes. This is in Uniball pen:

I could also post again my Star Trek Comic, if people are interested.

Hahaha, that picture is excellent. Yes, my notebooks in my lecture classes look just the same.

I currently have about 25 Copic Markers. I always grab one or two when I am in the art store and have extra cash. I have done about 15 pieces in them already over the last few months, since I only discovered them last year, and started buying them about six months ago. If I can get into the photo lab at my school one of these days, I will take photos of my new work.

And yes, please do post your comic, I would love to see it.

It makes me think of the Flume, so how about "The Flume?"

I have a couple of pictures with those exact names.

Sorry, yes the original work was mostly marker, but I did re-image it in Photoshop.
Thought so. Well done. :bolian:

Very cute. Reminds me vaguely of Virgil Finlay somehow. :)

Definitely. Some people probably haven't seen it.

Nice. You have a gift for faces-- something I'll never have.

Hey, that's gorgeous! Nicely done! I'm terrible with names too, so I can't help you there. ;)

You really do. Nice stuff!

I didn't know that! I always assumed that you had. I've never really taken any art classes either, except for those film, video, and sound classes I took when I did a year (twice) of Communication Studies. What I'd really love to do (aside from finish that) would be to enroll in the photography department at my school. My upstairs roommates is in it, and I'm very jealous of him.

I've always adored that piece! I used to do that too. I have an entire binder full of doodles from high school. They're not nearly as good as that, though, and they're almost entirely thumbnails of spaceship designs. Now that I have a scanner again, I'm going to try to get around to posting some of them in the Trek Art forum.

That's what I was going to say.

Anyway, as for me, I've never been much into painting. It just never felt intuitive to me, unlike drawing. However, here's a piece I did back in 1991 -- when I was eight years old.

You're making some nice pictures there Blab. Well done :)

I never kept any of my art work from school. I got mostly A grades in the subject, but didn't enjoy it enough to choose it as an option. My grades were mostly for abstract drawings, since whenever paint was involved, I was never happy with the result, so I tended to avoid them. I was best at ceramics though. :)

I felt that most school art work from the seniors that was on display, would look messy and ragged somehow. And I was rather turned off the subject by those displays. It probably influenced why I chose to not take the subject as an option, thinking that if this is the sort of stuff I'd be expected to produce, then I really wouldn't want to.

^ I went to an arts high school, and I was always pretty surprised at some of the low quality of a lot of the stuff that the kids would produce.

And yeah, I know that I said earlier in the thread that I've never really taken any art classes, but I was in the drama program, not the visual program.

^ Music class was my favourite subject at school. I never learned to play any musical instruments (besides the classroom favourite, the recorder) but I found it such a cheerful subject... teacher would play the piano and we'd have to listen out for the chord changes. Or we'd be given a chord sequence and had to fit a melody to it. All fun things :) My music teacher said I had a rare gift for music, saying that I intuitively understood the subject, and could identify notes. :D

Allow me to submit my version of Dali's "Swans reflecting Elephants"

Oil on canvas...

Ok I admit already it was a kit, but hell mixing the oils was hard enough, let alone realising you'd painted over the clues...
And NO it's not painting by numbers:)
I really admire anyone who can or who wants to paint, I think it's a true expression of the soul. I just needed a little guidance to start with!

^ I forgot to mention earlier when I was saying that I don't have an intuitive feel for painting that that helps to give me a real appreciation for those that do. I quite admire it.

You did a really nice job with that one, BTW! :techman:

Hah, I almost went into the music program, but for singing. I applied to both the vocal program and the drama program, but I'm glad I chose the latter.

So why didn't you pursue it?

^ thank you:)
If you really enjoy doing it, bugger what anyone else thinks. I lose myself in it. Currently working on Dali's 'Metamorphosis of Narcissus'. Hard enough to spell let alone try and paint:(
I always say it's an impressionist version ie. squint and you'll see something :)

Very cool. I have a small (okay big) fear of oils so I'll stick with my bright and messy acrylics for now.

I wish I had a better eye for light and shadows but alas I just have a steady hand and too much time to kill.
