Padalecki and Ackles open to a sixth season of Supernatural

Duff.

And we aren't talking about screwing the show, we are talking about ending the show and making CW figure out how they would like to continue it.

Plus what happens if they tell them they want a 6th season now, he extends the storylines to two seasons instead of one and then it turns out the show will end with the fifth season because CW went bye-bye?
You are talking about screwing the show.

Its Warners show (and then the CW's), it isn't Kripke's nor is it ours (as much as I love it). If the studio or the production company want the show to continue then having their employee ending it is a supreme act of screwing them over.

If they want it to continue, it is Kripke's literal job to due what they wish. An executive Producer (specifically head writers) job is to do the show in the manner the studio wishes. Its one of the reasons he is paid higher then any other writer, its because its his duties to follow the wishes of the studio.

So, Kripke can kill them off and leave it to the new show runner to resurrect them. Do something like the semi truck hitting the Impala....well not literally that again. Gosh darnit, season 6 just won't work. I absolutely do not trust a new show runner. A new show runner won't "get" the brothers and may well cave in to Dawn's "make it appealing to females 18-34 demand." I love it and I just want it to end next year while it's still good.

Well first we are assuming that one Kripke does indeed leave. We have no real idea if he will or wont.

And while he has been quite upfront about not wanting the show to become a shell of it self he i also in the position that its very unlikely that both cast members would want a 7th season. With that looming as a very serious roadblock for the show extending more then one year, he very well might not want to let the show go.

Hell for all we know it could simply be a bargaining tactic (It isn't like that hasn't happened hundreds of times with producers in hollywood).

As for the show, if he left we have no idea who would runt eh show. Would they air within the writing/production staff or outside (both happen fairly often). As for the characters I think most of the writing staff have at least as strong of feeling for the characters, probably less for the macabre, its something Kripke himself admits he isn't the strongest at.

As for a possible ending for a season 5, I could easily see an cliff hanger like season 1 (but we aren't ever directly lead to believe that the characters died). Thats not something hard to write yourself out of. What I can't see the studio allowing is them to literally have the show have an ending where both characters are died, or one where Kripke is allowed to fully end the mytharc.

Which is what I think you really wish would happen.

Actually I can see them allowing a soft ending for the mytharc. Meaning one where both characters are alive, and the the universe is back to a point with monsters of the week, but not the big demon/angels arc.

ANd it has elements I like, one it does give the myth arc some closure (if the show or the CW falls), but the drawback is that I don't think its the ending Kripke would want to give the show.

Maybe it's just the mood I'm in these days, wanting them both to go out in a blaze of glory and die. If Kripke does leave, I'd rather he end the mytharc with Lucifer like you said above and go back to the monsters of the week, even though I think that will feel anticlimactic. I suppose it's the lesser of two evils than trying to draw out the Lucifer arc on their low budget. Dawn O may want the show to continue, but I have a hard time believing she'd pony up more than a few dimes for the budget.

Warner...maybe. Dawn O?? NO WAY!! I see her throwing money at Vampire Diaries before Supernatural !!!

I hear you, KeeponTrekking. Vampire Diaries being a break out hit may save her network. Supernatural is a cash cow for Warners with all the foreign markets it plays in. Horror is big around the world. Smallville sure isn't. You're right--it's Warners that has a vested interest in keeping SPN going. Maybe I'm just in a snit because I wanted that 8 p.m. timeslot for Supernatural so bad, and Dawn gave it to a freshman show. Heck, she knows all those little girls who love those hairless teenaged vampires also love Grey's Anatomy at 9.

Not when all is said and done. SPN airs in more markets now. Not that Smallville hasn't earned Warners a chunk of change, but SPN is doing better in the foreign markets. DVD's, yes, Smallville has outsold SPN. Don't ask me why. I've never seen a more loyal fanbase to a show they all seem to make fun of. No one seems happy with Smallville. At least no one online.

:evil:Mswood......oh mswoooooood....honey, sweetie pie? Here's a little tidbit on a wishful thinking reality show subject that I have a sneaking suspicion you might enjoy. It's just a hunch, sweetie. I'm not sure why, but I thought you'd appreciate it.

Oiling up JP

To think that more people prefer JA. Boggles the mind.

Well, DVD revenue is a very significant factor. Anyway, to suggest that Smallville isn't an international success just isn't accurate, no matter how much you dislike the show.

Oh, it's a success. Just a matter of how much. Yes, DVD is a significant factor. I just wonder how it's going to fare a few years down the road with the latter seasons being so disliked. Will it still play well or sell well? That's why I'm so adamantly against a sixth season for this show. I'm afraid the new showrunner will bring in a Lana Lang type.
