P/C run amok...

I'm just reading that one now actually. It was in "A Time To Be Born" that she offers him a memorable night, of course ...

Gold Grizzly you're right. That's the book I was talking about. :wtf: Sorry I got that title wrong. That "memorable night" line has me so messed up. I can't think straight at the possibility of PC.

Oh yes, the infamous "memorable night". mon capitaine spotted that one, IIRC, at the beginning of December, just after I'd gone home and was completely out of range of any large bookstores. My parents and I went to Burlington, Vermont for New Year's Eve, though, and I remember swooping into Borders at about 8pm, saying "just a minute, I won't be long, I just have to check something!" :D

As for the actual quote, it strikes me that if it is what we think it is, it seems just a bit too sudden, and, I don't know, casual somehow. But you can definitely view it as a sign of their getting still closer. It would be really sad if they were just about to take the plunge, and then they Spoiler:
killed Beverly off.
But that won't happen, will it? :)

^ and we'd have to rename this thread
P/C: Spoiler:
Because Bev's Dead

^ Oh true enough. It's not going to happen.

Changing the subject: I'm going to have to watch The High Ground again some time soon. It's not an episode I've seen very often but from what I remember it's choc-a-bloc with P/C.

Hi all,
I'm new tho I have been lurking for a while. I'm finding this thread interesting 'cos I'm another P/C fan, as well as enjoying all the fanfic...
This is really just a test post to see if this computer will accept the 'host'- my own doesn't!

I think I will- enjoy myself that is  BTW, can someone tell me where fanfic is posted? I have one that's pretty much ready. I'm trying to work out if I need to add more... it's based on the discussion earlier in this thread re the causes of the divorce in AGT..

Also, if someone can give me an idea about why I can't post from home- my broadband provider is AOL and I use Firefox for browsing- I'd be very grateful. I post on other bulletin boards and have never been prevented by doing so because of my host before.

There's a dedicated Fanfiction Forum on this board... you can find it under the heading of "Astrometrics," god alone knows why. I'm always looking for more P/C stories: one inspired by this thread is doubly exciting! Can't wait to read it. :)

Try asking about this matter in the Questions, Suggestions and Feedback forum.

OK, thanks. Have posted story there- although I'm sure I'm broken umpteen etiquette rules in the process!!!

BTW, re the infamous quote, "there's something I've been meaning to tell you" am I right in thinking that in fact Beverly only says it twice across the whole TNG canon? Furthermore, she doesn't even use those exact words either...yet it's become a catchphrase!!

You're right, LISA_t, it's just the twice... in The High Ground and Remember Me. It seems very much like the sort of thing that should have happened in season one, given how vigourously she was pursuing him. The way that Arsenal of Freedom plays out is enough to convince many people that she said something then; she didn't, although she should have.

Have you read Q-Squared? Peter David makes a great thing out of that little tease, both at the beginning and the end of the book. It *opens* with "Jean-Luc, there's something I've been wanting to tell you". :)

Not yet. The local bookshops only seem to stock the 'A time to..' series- I may have to order it, unless I can beg it from a friend! What other books are good for P/C?

Hmmm... there really aren't a lot of TNG novels with much P/C. The two musts, in my opinion, are:

"Q-Squared" by Peter David (very, very, very P/C!)
"Dark Mirror" by Diane Duane (a couple of scenes, but worth it)

Another goodish one with some nice breakfast scenes is:
"The Devil's Heart" by Carmen Carter (the audio version is read by Gates McFadden, which is an additional bonus)

All three of these novels are fairly old, so I doubt you'd find them in bookstores, but you can certainly get them off Amazon... Happy reading! :)

Well I've revisited The High Ground from a P/C perspective and it's quite fun. The thing that strikes me is that it highlights rather nicely the twin strands of their relationship: Bickering and joint concern for Wesley.

Sure Picard bickers with Pulaski but that has real exasperation between the two of them. Their squabbling is based on them being too similar in character and having the respective power to question each other's decisions. It softens into respect eventually. Bickering with Bev is entirely different. It is clearly based on the attraction that dare not speak its name. I guess it substitutes as flirting for people to afraid to do flirting

The touching scenes in the cave all stem from whether Wesley was alright in the attack. It's as if these two characters only feel safe discussing their feelings through the medium of the boy's welfare. It's rather nice actually, Jack is rarely brought up between them, but Jack's son allows them to share an emotional intimacy they otherwise deny themselves.

Anyhoo, that's my left-field thoughts for this week. :)

I'll have to check out The Higher Ground. I haven't seen it in a long time. I'll also have to reread Q-Squared. I don't remember there being any PC in it.
