Looks like Raimi's using the original film's continuity for this "prequel." Why not? It was a perfect film.
But damn, Hollywood, come up with something new!
Seems to be a healthy mix of films in production right now.

@The Lensman Strip out the songs? Do you rave? I think we're gonna have to revoke your Winkie License
I kind of liked Tin Man, too, but I also thought it was kind of boring and dragged in several places. I normally like Zooey Deschanel, but I thought her performance in that was kind of bland.
You convinced me. I love the 1939 as is, but, yea, wouldn't want to see the songs updated, they are a product of their time. I haven't read the books, so I would love to see a Series of Faithful adaptations@The Lensman Strip out the songs? Do you rave? I think we're gonna have to revoke your Winkie License
LOL! Well I'd like a non-musical version, and I really have no interest in hearing any updated versions of those classic songs, especially after seeing the updated "Willy Wonka". But I would like to see someone try to do a faithful adaptation of the book.
Opening Post says "prequel", not SequelInteresting. An in-continuity sequel to the Judy Garland movie? I wonder what their approach will be? Is it going to be a musical and be consistent with the visual style of the original? That's probably asking for too much, but it could be great.
As for Tin Man, it was pretty good, but Zooey did seem a little stoned.
I hadn't heard about any cast members other than Franco, but I just looked it up on wiki and you're right, that is some great casting.I love the casting for the three witches!

"Tin Man" was the first time I became aware of Zooey. I'd never heard the name, but her acting was utter shit in this and almost put me off her altogether. Seriously, I remember thinking "this girl has no future as an actress....she's got less range than a plank of wood."
I remember talking to my brother about it, he was familiar with her, and I kept thinking we were talking about two different actress the way he spoke of her positively.
I've since seen her in other stuff, and I'm guessing that "Tin Man" was an exception since I've enjoyed her in other works.
I generally like Zooey very much but in Tin Man it was like she was on sedatives or something. She literally looked like she was about to fall asleep the whole time.
Hmm. I knew that. I don't know why I typed "sequel."Opening Post says "prequel", not SequelInteresting. An in-continuity sequel to the Judy Garland movie? I wonder what their approach will be? Ah, I didn't notice it.
You also have to remember it was a Sci-Fi (SyFy) presentation. They even managed to make Bruce Campbell less interesting than normal in the 2 movies he did for them.
