Overused Internet Comments

Yo, Dawg! I Heard You Like Avatars...
In Memoriam
- "First!" -

Great, now say something useful.

- "Am I the only one...?" (usually followed by a completely mundane or popular thing lots of people have done or liked) -

No, no you're not. You have to follow that up with something pretty outlandish for you to be the only one on a board of thousands to enjoy it.

- "I'm surprised no one has mentioned __________ yet." -

Someone probably has. Read back through the thread before saying this.

- Correcting a minor grammatical or spelling error that doesn't interfere with understanding what the person is saying -

Frequently followed up by the person posting the correction making their own grammar or spelling mistake in the same post or a subsequent post in the same thread. If you're going to be annoying and do this, at least proofread your own posts first.

- "Actually..."

Often followed up by something that neither corrects nor contradicts what the person was saying.

Do you have any more?

QFT. ;)

One comment that I dislike and have luckily not heard spoken in real life but I see on the internet all the time: meh.

I see what you did there. :shifty:

My god, that's another one. This thread has gone meta.

Hey, that's not nice talking about Christopher like that.

The phrase "fuck my life (FML)" is one I hate. Your life is only FML worthy if you're a homeless person living in the slums of Detroit.

"In Before The Lock."

Usually that's followed by or in the form of a humorous animated gif though, so I don't mind that one.

InBeforeTheLock.gif

"In Before The Lock."

None of the things mentioned in this thread really bug me, but the  is the most overused and annoying thing on the internet. GET RID OF THAT EMOTICON.

+1 ;)

I use that in conversations all the time - then again, I'm fond of dropping random Yiddish phrases into my speech.

So hoch mir nisht ken tshaynik. :p
It means "stop bothering me" - literally, it translates as "don't bang on my teakettle."

(Though I'm not actually certain that it originated with Yiddish - opinion seems to be divided.)

"n00b!"

usually said by some MW2 player who just kicked someone else's ass and just because the ass-kicker has a higher rank, he has to call the ass-kicked 'n00b!'

variants include adding the name of any weapon or attachment so "G18 n00b!" or "sensor n00b!"

LOL.

i hate this one the most i think. and it's almost always used for stupid stuff like...'stepped in some gum. FML!1!!11!'

I've actually heard the term "Epic Fail" used in real life and I couldn't believe it. What a horrible phrase, and one I never use.

I really hate "First!". Most of the other overused Internet comments at least have some actual content. I don't like LOL either.
