Over-representation of Americans

One wonders if the Vulcans would've had such a problem with humanity if they'd landed in Amsterdam instead of a honky tonk in Montana.

As a Dutch person, I'm going to now wait for all the cliches about Amsterdam. :D :D :D

iirc Wesley was born on a starship, and his mother was born on Earth's moon.

Sounds like Troi's father was a American (from Fist Full of Data's), so Troi might be American.

Ok so we add both Crushers and Seven to non-Earth humans. Doesn't affect the overall balance but accuracy is always welcome.

Last time I was in Amsterdam I ate way too much of an edible, became paranoid that my boots were conspiring to murder me, and built a pillow fort on my hotel bed for protection. Woke up with my passports taped together, and also taped to the wall for some reason.

Hehe. I'm sure there's some great jokes to be made about Vulcans and marijuana :guffaw:
That's ridiculous!

Everyone knows that marijuana in Star Trek comes from Romulus.

Alright, let's dissect the logic in that.

Yes, although Wesley was born while Beverly was in medical school, so he was presumably born somewhere on Earth.
Three centuries from now I would assume there'd be medical schools on the moon, didn't Riker say the moon's population was fifty million?

Americans built the first warp-capable ship.

And Americans made first contact.

USA! USA! USA!
Americans are so cool the Vulcans built their Embassy in Sausalito.

I hear they have great parties there.

Belanna Torres on her father's side (maybe).

Michael Eddington (DS9) might be assumed to be Canadian.

As far as I know Torres' nationality was never established. I'm not even sure if she grew up on Earth or not.
Eddington I assume is Canadian but he's not a main character.

I would hope by then were are all finally just Terrans..........when you are so focused on race you will never see past it.
I thought we were looking at nationalities, not races.

People in the future do seem to identify with individual nations and nationalities.
2 non-Earth humans:
Mayweather
I wonder if Mayweather's family ship's registry is connected to a Earth nation? That could make Mayweather a national of that nation.

Are we only doing main characters? Might be interesting to open this up to minor and reoccurring characters.

Even off Earth there would be nationalities, yes. Personally I would assume that Earth colonies would each have multiple nations on their surfaces.

It's quite possible there are nationalities on other worlds but my main point was we have no idea where Torres is from, as far as I know.

You can't have heroes without some Americans.

Everywhere around the World, all peoples are coming to America. Showcase Americans and you've pretty much got every group you could hope to target under one "roof," as it were. And what's wrong with that? Nothing beats American know-how!

He's (B'elanna's dad)Hispanic, and could come from anywhere in South, Central, or North America. Chakotay's tribe is Central American.

Roxanne Dawson and Robert Beltran are both Hispanic and come from the US.

yes, but as they should be. It's impossible to represent everyone and being selective would only foster unnecessary resentment by those who weren't represented. Just because you have a French Picard doesn't been you're representing Slovakians, for instance. While Americans represent the whole world even today, to some extend.
