Over 18's showings?

Nope, that would be the UK.

It's generally for adults to enjoy 12A films kiddy-free.

The Return of the King was ruined for me by some little schmuck talking during the epic end battle scene. Ever since then I've tried to go to over-18 screenings on a school night to make sure that any film I really want to see isn't ruined by tiny kids that just can't shut up.
This is brilliant. They ought to do this in the states.

Grownups have abandoned watching movies in theaters in America - they all have their home-theater systems set up and ready to go.

I don't know about that. Every movie we go to is 3:1 Adults. The only time it's not is for animated stuff.

Yeah I live in the UK. I'm in a dilemma on where to go to watch it.

Me and my friend (who is also a big Trek fan) promised that we have to see this in style and on the opening day, that style being the £14 a ticket seats in the Cinema De Lux in town for director seats and basically a butler for the evening, access to a cocktail bar, and a choice of beers before we sit down (that's right, drinking in a cinema, you Americans probably get it all the time, but England is a big no).

But now I'm seeing that Vue have this over 18's showing, they don't have beer but it'll be smaller crowds, and not to mention you can't book the director seat tickets over the internet or on the phone (you might be able to, but honestly the website is less user friendly than a dead donkey on a beach), not to mention the ticket is more than half the price.

Hm.

I initially thought this thread was for audiences who would go to the theater naked...

I'm right frakkin' with ya there. I get tired of screamin' babies and whining kids in the theater.

The last time that I got the last laugh in inconsiderate parents was when Watership Down was on the big screen. Seems lots of parents took their kids to see the cartoon about the cute and fuzzy bunnies... and then the blood started. There was a parade of parents leading their kids by the hand up the aisle and out of the theater. LOL

Its great, ive been to many 18+ showings, but Vue are stupidly over priced, at least in Kent and London area so i dont really bother, i just go to Cineworld or whatever after 8 or 9pm.

For the opening night, me and my girlfriend have the luxury of being on the Isle of Wight in Hampshire, UK. On the island, it is DEAD at the cinema, granted there is only one multiplex here in Newport, but it is DEAD.

So, the 6:30 showing, advanced preview, should be just adults. HA HAAAAA, dont even hve to pay extra for better seats or kiddy free environment, cos it already will be.

I don't know what Watership Down is but I had a similar experience in Watchmen where these idiotic parents brought their 8 -10 year-olds because the kids convinced them it was "a comic book movie" and the only reason it was rated "R" was because of some violence. Little did they know.

OTOH, I don't blame parents who bring in the screaming babies (the under 5 crowd). I'm a parent of a 2.5 year old and you try to experiment to see if your kids can handle the movies without getting restless. I took my daughter last summer to see Kung Fu Panda and she was perfect until about the last 10 minutes of the film and so we scored that as a win. However when we went to see Bolt a few months later, it was a completely different story. She was restless from the beginning and had a complete meltdown halfway through the film which happens, but as parent, you have to not only have consideration for the other people in the theater, but for your kid as well and get them the hell out of there immediately, even if you did just pay $50 for three tickets, a large popcorn and soda. After we left we weren't in the car more than sixty seconds before the crying and screaming stopped and she was sound asleep and we were forced to wait until the movie came out on Blu Ray before we could finish watching it.

You live and learn. I've got no problem with parents who bring their little ones to a theater. The problem I have is when they should take them home and they don't. It's discourteous and selfish. But, therein lies the reason why 18 and older theaters would be a nice option. :)

There are a number of theatres, mostly in the LA or NY areas, experimenting with over 21 showings so that they also serve alcoholic beverages. The Arclight in LA is one such.
I must track down one of these theaters lol

LOL agreed..this might get me to go to the movies a lot more often...but the thing is I'll be running to the bathroom every 5 min's after a few drinks...I hate that :(

They don't do over 18 screenings in the US? It's a great idea, and usually will attract a solid crowd as I've always found a fair number of people come later at night to enjoy the film without the squeals of little kids or perhaps more irritatingly the messing around of those in their early teens (ruined Signs for me, not that there was much to ruin). Someone should suggest it to a cinema chain over there.

We need Over-25 screenings. I find the college kids more annoying than the wee ones.

Ahhh, yes, the "broken seal" effect. ;)

A buddy of mine and I experimented with alcohol and movie theaters back when Beavis & Butthead was out and it did not go well for exactly that reason... well, that and the fact that it was an old style theater with just an angled floor and one misstep caused all of the bottles to go rolling down to the front of theater.

Awkward.

Well you guys have a much easier time of peeing in public...I've known plenty of guys who will just pee right there in a cup in the movie, the stadium....wherever...I'm sure ya'll are familiar w/ what I'm talking about ;)...so at least pee filled bottles didn't roll to the front of the theater...you would of had to add humiliating to awkward !

So to combat the broken seal effect I'm planning on wearing depends to the theater....SO IS EVERYBODY WITH ME ON THIS ONE?????? Forget sombreros...I say we sport depends....and be proud of it !

I patiently await the picture of depends wearing a sombrero.
