Outpost Gallifrey/Doctor Who Forum To Close

I can't say I'm surprised.

Hopefully any influx this forum receives doesn't have a negative effect on the forum's atmosphere.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. OG could be very negative and, quite frankly, ridiculous at times. We have a fairly peaceful atmosphere in the DW forum as it is; I can see any grudges held between members at OG being moved over here.

That said, some new blood would be great.

This has been and continues to be the friendliest place on the board.

There is none of the bitter infighting/shipper crap that floods many of the other forums.

After hearing many stories about OG I hope this place doesn't suffer now OG is closing down.

a few more wont hurt, as long as we dont get the "... is the Rani" lot, or the tragic Doctor/Rose shippers.

Listen, I just waded through an entire thread filled with your stalker-adventures on a bus with a lesbian David Tennant. I could use a few more "-is the Rani" lot...
ive not seen her for a few days, maybe she is the Rani ;)

Maybe she's still on the bus but has regenerated?

Looks like they're setting up a new Forum called Galifrey Base. Where hopefully they can carry on as they have been without bothering the rest of us.

I love how in his closing message Lyon manages to attack every other DW related forum (none of which feel the need to charge anyone to post there) and overstate once again his importance in the greater scheme of things. It was just a (very large) message board. The only effect they ever had on Doctor Who was making fans look bad every time someone involved with making the show made the mistake of reading it.

Indeed. The arrogance of that closing message was just amazing. I had a very small post count there. Far too many people that were far too rabid for my tastes.

As for Doctor/Rose shippers... wamdue, I thought you were one. ;)

I doubt there'd be an influx here anyway - those of us who'd like to frequent this board... already do.

Well, I used OG as a resource for Classic Who info. Never managed to register at the forum (apparently, my mail addy was too shabby :shifty:).

I wouldn't mind this forum growing and becoming more active. So welcome, FresnoTL! :)

People will wonder out loud: why don't we spin it off, or why don't I pass it along to others? Simply put, Outpost Gallifrey is nothing but a concept, a concept I created, but which now rests in the hands of the fans who utilize it every day. It's a title, and you don't need a title to continue... you already have the community. Like our site and forum, the Internet has grown exponentially. There are other communities to visit on the Internet, obviously, and we encourage you to visit them. But of course, if these communities do not serve your needs (and we expect many won't), we encourage you to take the course that I did 13 years ago: create your own space.
So does this mean the Outpost Gallifrey URL is available for someone else to make their own Doctor Who Forum?

First the Restoration Team's message board and now Outpost Gallifrey. It's like a plague spreading through the Doctor Who forums!

In all seriousness, I just registered at the OG Forums a few months ago to lurk (usually in the DVD threads so I could know what was coming up and what I wanted to get that was already out), so it won't be a loss to me personally. Hopefully everyone over there can find another outlet they enjoy. I'll also extend an invitation to the (non-crazy) members who might want to check out our forum, and welcome those who have already come over.

I'm assuming that the OG archive page will be going the way of the dinosaurs as well, which is a real shame because when I first started getting in to Doctor Who early last year it was an invaluable resource for me to learn about the show's history.

Might be. I just hope Shaun the liar Lyon goes away and we never hear from the liar again. Put another way, I can't stand the self-important fuckwad.

Interesting. I know next to nothing about the man. What did he do to earn such a strong reaction from you?

I've been there for a couple of years, but generally only posted during those few months the series was on. There were ocassional fun threads, and the Squeee! threads were always good for a chuckle, but mostly it was fun in a train-wrecky sort of way to just lurk. I'd usually stop in here first after watching a new episode, then over there to watch the fanboys fight. I'll miss it.

The members were fine. But judging by the comments here, it sounds like the owner can go piss up a rope.

I posted under the name 'Herbert West'.

:guffaw:tis possible people have been getting on at her stop.

I'll bet someone buys it to make a Fire whoeversinchargenow campaign.

That news thing said that all good things come to an end. Doesn't that mean OG should last forever?

A few years ago, I bought a "supporting" ticket to the Gallifrey One con. For the 25 bucks or so, I was to have received a program and a few other things that were given out to the attending people. It was supposed to have been mailed out within a week after the con ended. It took six months, a report to the Better Business Bureau, AND filing postal fraud charges against him before he finally sent them out.

He told me he was simply "too busy" running his website to deal with going to the post office, and since I was "just" a supporting member, I wasn't a priority. I registered on OG to ask if anyone else had received their stuff, two or three people replied saying "no" and the thread disappeared, and I received a PM warning me that if I started any threads again, I would be banned from OG.

I emailed him and the others listed on the con website every two weeks, and gave copies of all the emails and the responses I received to the BBB and the postmaster when I filed charges. Since I had mailed him a postal money order, and he cashed it less than a week after I mailed it, and I had it in email from him that he couldn't be bothered to send what I bought, I had him.

That was the last year they offered it. As part of the agreement with the postal service, they cannot offer something to sell something and then not actually send out the product.

Great way to run a forum there. :bolian:

Why not try it? Outpostgallifrey.com expires on November 16th, 2009. doctorwhoforum.com expires in March 2011. It would be pretty easy to take, if Shaun Lies forgets to renew it.

I'm going to put it on my reminders. I've already snatched a few in the last few years, May as well add this one to the list.

Wow. Pretty classless on his part. Good for you for sticking it out and making him live up to his end. Most people would have probably just fumed privately and not taken appropriate action.
