Out in 2011 - Star Trek: A Choice of Catastrophes

I'd love references to Gold Key Trek comics, told in totally random Family Guy-style flashbacks!
Nothing quite like that (alas), but there were two blink-and-you'll-miss-it references in The Future Begins.

I never had the guts to work in my Scotty line, though: "Och aye, leavin' Starfleet were the biggest mistake I made since I that time I dyed me hair blond!"

Say the word and I'll do it... With a bit more believable dialect.

For various reasons, that's not practical this year...

Despite the obvious changes behind the scenes, what changed?

I'm just guessing, but I figure the biggest thing is that there won't be any Pocket editorial representation at Shore Leave this year, hence no "Coming Attractions" show. Therefore, editor Jaime Costas is authorizing the release of various infonuggets as it becomes appropriate to do so (for example, announcing new projects once contracts are signed, if mine and Kevin's situation(s) is/are any indication).

^ I should clarify, since I'm not certain about there not being any such panel. I'm just guessing, based on the fact that Jaime won't be there.

It was the same in our case. Once the contracts were signed by all involved parties, we got the go-ahead to make the announcement.

That was my impression too. However, it's occurred to me that even without an editorial presence, maybe we authors could put together our own "Coming Attractions" panel at the usual bat-time and bat-channel.

Heck yes!

Gah, that kinda stinks. This'll be my first Shore Leave.

I guess I'll just have to settle for getting a ton of books signed. :)

OK - believe me, there are even more twisted lines and refs in it...

This is great news. I posted just the other day about wanting more traditional TOS Kirk-Spock-McCoy novels. This sounds like exactly what I want to read. :)

We don't need to go back to a new one every month, but at least a few a year would be welcome. They've been too and far between in recent years.

I'll say this:

With a possible return to more stand-alones...there just may be more of a chance for New Guys to come in, now!

Here's hoping the book-per-month rate will increase dramatically.

If there was going to be the dramatic uptick in output in the short term you're hoping for, we'd have heard something about it by now, given the development cycle of a novel from outline to store shelf. There's also the fact that there's still fewer people overseeing Trek fiction at Pocket than there was a year ago or even two years ago, so my gut tells me the status quo so far a Trek output isn't changing any time soon. Poor Jaime's got plenty on her plate as it is. :)

With the caveat that I have no insider information on this topic, I doubt we're going to see any sort of real increases. One book a month along with the various trades (and the extra book here and there) is still a pretty healthy publishing schedule for a franchise with no regular screen output.

But, those are the kinds of things over which you have no control. You want to be a writer, so write, be it Trek or something else. :)

I would prefer a book a month for the indefinite future, than a flurry of publications with a near term sessation of any novels, new or collected.

Actually, a book a month is a good pace. I got so far behind during the two-books-per-month era that I will never catch up.

In fact, I'm somewhat glad of the hiatus this year, as it means I can work on my 20+ book backlog. I just started rereading book 1 of the Vulcan's Soul trilogy. I read the first one when it first came out, 4 or 5 years ago, forgot what it was about, and never got a chance to read the others.
