Other Ships (Potential Spoilers)

Samuel T. Cogley

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So I remember reading in one of the TrekToday threads a week or so ago (I can't be bothered to find which one it was because they are so tedious and jammed full of random repetitive crap that doesn't match the thread title) that there were going to be "other ships" in Star Trek XI.

Now that's not a major revelation, of course.

But here's my hope.

I never wanted this movie to be about the entire crew all together in their familiar roles. When I first heard about the prequel concept, I hoped it would focus only on Kirk and Spock, and then get to the rest of the crew later on.

So, based on the "other ships" bit, here's my hope:

I hope we start with Pike and Spock on the Enterprise.

I hope Kirk starts off on another ship entirely, and maybe spends most of his time off-Enterprise.

I hope the screen-time of Uhura, Sulu, etc. is minimal, and that they are mostly spread around on various other ships that are not the Enterprise.

This would not only give the opportunity to show us several other ships in the fleet and how they work together, but it would also make it (a little) more realistic in that our whole familiar bridge crew didn't spend every waking moment from birth until death together.

I envision an "Alias" motif in which the minor characters are each given an important part of the puzzle to solve, but they don't necessarily all have to be in the same room to do it. Uhura could be decoding the doo-hickey on the USS Constitution, and Sulu could be pouring over starcharts on the USS Yorktown to track down the Big Bad, etc. And it all comes together seamlessly (or not so seamlessly) in the end.

I'd actually like to wait until Trek XII (or the last moments of Trek XI) for the entire crew to come together.

What are your thoughts?

Final moments I reckon.

I'll also put money on the "Federation captain" being the commander of Kirk's ship who will most certainly get whacked before the credits roll.

I also think she might be a female.

Just a hunch.

I completely agree with Sam's vision of how this movie ought to work in these regards.

However, given "Cock" as a poll option, I was compelled to choose it.

Come together on the Enterprise towards the final act to defeat the Big Bad
