I liked Nicole DeBoer, but would have personally preferred Ezri not to become a main character in the final season. DS9 was already +1 since Worf came aboard anyway, not to mention the healthy number of secondary characters. Limiting Ezri's appearance to a single episode (as a guest star) would have compressed all her and Worf's issues and probably given us a good episode without interfering with the Dominion War arc.
Oh, I completely disagree. We needed some kind of resolution that would've been believeable. And it enhanced the DW arc--by giving many elements (the Breen alliance, Damar's rebellion, etc.) a more personal angle....
And...nah--Nicole was IDEAL for the role. She nailed it, for me. End of story.
It may also have been interesting to cast a male character in the role.

I completely disagree. The male/female ratio in the show was already too high. Making Kira the only main female character while adding yet another male character would have been really too much.

Agreed.
If gender doesn't matter, why don't we have 6 or 7 women in the main cast and 2 men, rather than the other way round? Or can only male characters be interesting and have depth?I completely disagree. Really? The male/female ratio in any tv show never really bothered me. It was whether the character was interesting and had depth that mattered. What if the Trill were genderless or had more than two genders?

I agree. Nicole + Ezri fans unite!

Since we're here talking about a specific character and whether it would have been better if that character were male, this "it's not about gender, it's about how interesting and deep the character is" talk makes no sense in the context. Unless people who are using that argument are implying that the character would have been better, more interesting and deeper just by virtue of being male. Or, in other words, women are shallower, less interesting and generally lame just for being women.
Sorry, but that's the only logical interpretation of crouteru's and Navaros' arguments above.![]()
I was wondering, who else might you on this forum have placed as Ezri? Which other actresses at the time would you have preferred in the role? Blonde, perhaps?
I don't really know why you got the impression my comments were about women being less interesting. A new Star Trek series could have an all female cast if it wanted, so long as the characters are interesting.
Reminds me of a friend's RP ship where most of the department heads are women.
