I totally agree. Before Star Wars came out futuristic stuff was defined by how incredibly tough and seamless it was. What is more impressive technically; the crap hanging off the Millennium Falcon or Klaatu's saucer from The Day The Earth Stood Still where the door and ramp just appear and disappear into a seamless, impenetrable surface?
