OT: Doctor Who: Short Trips: The Quality of Leadership

I'm still geeking out over the fact that I'm in a book with Diane Duane!

There are so many positive things about this volume. And while yes, it's cool that all these great writers are in it, I'm having a geekgasm over TerriO writing a story with the first - and best, in my opinion - Romana.

Everything about that story is going to be perfect.

And we all know how much Terri loves Mary Tamm's Romana. For that alone, I look forward to reading her story. :D

No, seriously, it's going to be a really cool anthology. As I replied to someone on LJ when he asked about the book's accessibility, I think this is a Short Trips anthology that readers who are unfamiliar with Doctor Who but who like the work of, say, Peter David or Diane Duane or Terri Osborne will be able to pick up, run with, and enjoy. So you TrekLit readers, give this one a try when May rolls around.

That's good to know actually, I think I'll make my first foray into Doctor Who fiction.

We can't be that protective. We're still letting Russell T Davis write crap finales and specials.

Are you referring to that finale that got an 88% audience appreciation index? Maybe the special that had an audience appreciation index of 86%? Or perhaps the one from the previous year with an AAI of 84%?

Obviously the majority of people disagree with your assertion that the quality of Davies' writing is sub-par. Doesn't mean that they're not protective of their Doctor Who, just that their definition of a "crap" episode differs from yours. What's that, subjectivity?

Sci, this isn't the place for that discussion. Let's stick to discussing the book, okay?

You're chastising Sci, when it was AN_D_K who drug it so far off-topic? You haven't been replaced with the LMH, have ya? lol

Looking forward to this. I'm already eagerly checking out Big Finishes site for a preview. :)

Sorry, it was meant to be a little aside joke ...still looking forward to the book. Let's talk about that...

I've never read a Doctor Who book before but I'm interested in this one. Is this planned to be released in the US or will it only be available as an import?

Will it be available in e-book here? My 14 year old daughter is showing an interest in Dr Who, and I gave her my old Palm Pilot(haven't getten her reading Star Trek yet, but I'll sneak it in there one of these days!)

Actually, I have found the odd Big Finish collection in US book stores. Just recently came across one in a Barnes & Noble here in NYC, though I can't remember which one it was (The Centenarian, I think)....

It's not distributed in the U.S., no, but there are ways to get it. As Allyn said, Who North America is one option, as is Big Finish's own site. Also Mike's Comics in Worcester, Massachusetts carries the BF books, and they do mail-order.

(BTW, I'm trying to work out a deal with Mike's Comics for them to supply copies of The Quality of Leadership for sale at Shore Leave 30 in July, since the editor and seven of the authors will be there.....)

There's a British bookseller who ships to the U.S. for free. How they stay in business, I don't know, but I love it! (Naturally forgetting the name -- if nobody else has posted it in the meantime, I'll do so tonight from home after looking at my last order....)

I can't make it to Shore Leave this year. Will anyone who is going be willing to pick up a copy and get it signed by the authors in attendance?

Amazon.co.uk should get it and when it does, it is no problem to order it from the USA, too. I am living in Britain but have been shopping at Amazon US and Amazon Germany without any problems. You just have to be aware of additional shipping costs and, of course, delivery takes longer.
