OT: Battlestar Isis

Vice Admiral
I think, as simple as this image is in some ways, it's the best one I've done to date in DOGA. I've learned a lot since I started a few years back.

The trickiest part was figuring out the "join ups" on the letters in the logo. The font I found didn't do them itself.

DOGA?

The Battlestar model is way too simplistic for a close, well-lit shot. You'll get better results using moodier dark lighting to hide the lack of detail. Stick the main light behind and very slightly above the ship (as seen from the camera) and add a low level fill light on the side the camera is on to add some detail. Maybe even make the fill light a different colour, like a deep red or light blue to make it look like something is going on off in the distance.

DOGA is the rather primitive program Darkwing is stuck with.

It is capable of none of the things outlined above, as far as I know.

Actually, if I understand what Axeman is saying, it is, or at least something like it. I just have to figure out how to do it. it doesn't help that I just upgraded to the latest incarnation a few months ago and found significant changes in some of the interfaces and how they work.

My experimentation continues... :)

You might find Sketchup less of a bind to use. It's not as flexible for lighting and so forth, but shockingly easy to get a decent model out of. You can then use a third party rendering tool to make the pictures.

I have to admit I've never heard of DOGA, even Google was a bit stumped by it.

My first (and last) model made in DOGA. I exported it and rendered it in an older version of Lightwave, the DOGA renderer is so limited it hurts to use it.

That's some old program right there, the specs it requires were getting old in 1996. I think my iPhone could comfortably run this stuff and still play me tunes in the background. Why are you guys persisting with this when even Sketchup kicks its ass? Time to move into the 21st Century.
