Spoilers Orphan Black Season 4 Discussion

I like that Donny's accidental shooting of Doctor Leeky is going to be discovered by more than just Alison.

The voice asking if he killed Leekie sounds like Tatiana. So, maybe one of the others?

I hope the move to Thursday doesn't hurt the ratings. I preferred Saturday night, like Doctor Who.

Kira aging doesn't really bother me that much. The show has only been on four years.

S1 to S2 had no gap. S2 to S3 had maybe a few days. The most noticeable difference there was Felix's radical haircut changes.

Well isn't season 4 talking about going back to where it began and developing more into Beth's background?
I think so. I'm looking forward to that a lot. If there is a series ripe for a movie or mini-series, it's Orphan Black and the Beth years.

Just finished season 2 and started season 3 on my rewatch this week. I'm hoping they explain Dr. Leekie some. I'm almost getting the sense that while I love this series, the writers tend to bring in stuff that doesn't make sense to what they had before. For example, a lot of the end of season 2 had the reaction to the revelation that Dr. Leekie killed Susan. Well, now that Susan is still alive, does that make Leekie just a pawn in Neolution's plans? Also, I'm a little confused about the timeline of this. I've heard that this series all takes place in about 2 months (From Beth's suicide to now) and man has so much happened in 2 months.

Doing this rewatch, my excitement for season 4 keeps growing. Now that we know it's a 5 season show, I'm hoping we get some much needed resolution soon. I also read (As a rumor) that one of the clones might die. I might be ok with that. It's not like they're writing Maslany out of the show or anything. ;)

I wouldn't mind if Alison were killed off. She's always annoyed me, and sometimes is too peripheral to the main stories, though I admit her subplots have often been darkly funny. If they kill off Cosima, though, I'll be really unhappy.

I liked Alison in Season 1 and 2. Didn't really like her storyarc in season 3 though. Still though, she and Donnie actually working together was fun.

New Trailer came out today. It is a very interesting style BBC America is doing with their trailers these days. This looks more in line with Doctor Who than Orphan Black, but based on that trailer, I'm getting pretty excited. Looks like we're really going to delve into Beth and I've been wanting that since she jumped in front of the train.

You know, the episode where Paul dies is probably my favorite episode of the season. There are scenes in TV that gets me every time, like the final Data dream sequence in Birthright I. The scene between Sarah and Beth is slowly becoming one of those scenes.

"Stop asking why, Start asking who...Sister". If Season 4 is about Beth's backstory and unravling the conspiracy and why she jumped, this episode set that up in a huge way.

I'm always amazed at the Canadian Space Trailers compared to the American ones. While the American ones are decent, I'm not really a fan of the jumpiness that BBC America has taken lately. I saw this trailer from Space today and I thought it was a much better trailer and fit the tone of Orphan Black as a series.

I've talked a lot about the comic book genre this week with Batman vs. Superman and realized how fatiguing it felt. I'm already excited for OB to come back, but now I have a better reason. The shows I like now are comic book based (Supergirl and Flash). OB isn't and that will be refreshing.

So I'm guessing no one watched the four minute preview that was shown on BBCa last night?

I don't blame you guys if you missed it, I only caught it cause my DVR is set up to record all new programs related to Orphan Black.

It was pretty interesting, we actually open on Beth, so for those speculating that this season is going to delve into Beth, they're wish is being granted. Obviously it's a flashback as we see Paul as well. We actually open on two men dumping a body, being spied on by a third person. The third person calls Beth and tries to get her to meet somewhere, the third person (who up until this point is wearing a mask) takes the mask off and it's revealed to be Helena (I think).

It purported to be the opening of episode 1, but it felt a little disjointed, they might have purposely edited it in such a way to tease. All in all it's got me excited, I can't wait to see what lead Beth to her suicide in the opening episode.

It actually has been online for a couple of days:

It is not Helena, but a new clone.

Oh cool.

I guess I just thought this thread would be on the first page because people were discussing it. I suppose there's not really a whole lot to discuss till the show premieres this Thursday.

I saw it Thursday. Other than the two guys kissing (because I guess we have to have that on tv now) it was really good.

And just a note I don't have issues with the LGBT community. I watched that scene and my first thought was the writers pretty much saying "let's put this scene in here to keep everyone happy." Unless we see a in story reason for it, I could have lived just fine without it.

^Would you object to a heterosexual kiss if there were no clear story reason for it? And how can you know there's no story reason for it when you've only seen four minutes of the first episode?

The best reason to include gay relationships front and center is precisely to counter attitudes like yours, that they're an anomaly that needs justification. They aren't. They're part of everyday life, and portraying them that way in fiction is an important part of getting people to realize that.

I'm deliberately avoiding the four-minute preview. I rather wait for the not-so-faraway premiere.

Yes, if it was painfully obvious that it was just being used to pander. Ditto for those annoying in-show commercials they do, like show off Ford's new auto-parking feature or whatever. They take you right out of the story when they do awkward stuff like that.

But that's my point. Something like that should be special but here it was used to pander. I guess I watch a ton of shows where two people kissing is becoming the new kewl explosions that people complained about with Enterprise. Also I'm more than happy to change my opinion when I see it in context but considering this was a flashback scene I doubt we will.

In terms of changing my attitude, why was the kiss here. By the way they were doing it over a grave so I can already tell these are greatly disturbed people who don't care about the person they just buried (and I would have the same opinion if it was a heterosexual couple) or where they were entirely. I could easily say what is portrayed here goes against what should be accepted in everyday life.

But that's my point. Something like that should be special but here it was used to pander.

No, it shouldn't be special. That's the point. LGBT relationships should be treated as normal. As typical, everyday things, not some special case that needs to be called attention to. It's just part of life.

Then it sounds like you've just answered your own question and refuted your own objection. It was there because it revealed something important about the characters' personalities and values. That obviously serves a purpose.

That 5 minute preview got me excited. I've been wanting to see more of Beth, and for some reason as the show went on I grew more and more disappointed she had died in episode 1. I wanted for her to be a proper character in it, and now going back like that was... interesting and also pretty uncanny. Gave me goosebumps.

I thought it would have been interesting moment if she had ever met her impostor, but that, aside from the dream sequence between Sarah and her, would be impossible to pull off without ruining the show and stretching things too far. (I do hope Beth is not in coma somewhere after someone switched her body.)

I was also wondering about episode 1. Beth left her bag on the platform, and she very much noticed Sarah. She supposedly didn't know her, yet she still left her bag there before her and jumped. She should have known her bag would be taken—if only for the answers it held. So I keep wondering how aware she was of Sarah and would any of this come up. Beth had the police resources to find her, Sarah had a criminal record and was easy to find, yet her name was nowhere in any of the documents Sarah found in Beth's possession. That's very weird.

But the problem is... this wasn't some dinner date or attendees at a wedding... 2 people burying a dead body. We all would have rolled our eyes if it was a heterosexual couple as well.

I suppose we might find out why it's typical behavior for this couple ....but the killing-someone-turns-me-on was already done with Alison & Donny. Are we supposed to accept killing as normal sexual arousal behavior?

Then why not just say that you object to two people kissing at a burial? The fact that you chose to arbitrarily make your complaint about their sexuality, when you yourself admit that it's not an issue for the story, kind of speaks for itself.

Why in the world would you think that anything in this show is meant to be "normal?"
