Orion Raider-class Light Cruiser WIP

Hey guys. I've got another ADB project here. This is the main Orion Pirate cruiser in SFB. This another kind of boring design that I'm trying to spruce up with interesting detailing. What do you guys think?

Looks good to me even though im not really a big fan of Orion class ships from ADB

I've always thought the pirate designs were a little too angular...at least for my taste. If I were just modelling for my own satisfaction, I'd round off that pointed nose a bit in addition to the great changes you have implemented in your interpretation of this ship. I'm really digging how you've made the wings flow into the main hull.

I'm not as enthusiastic about the hull plating. It seems a little 'busy' to me. Of course, it really isn't fair to pass judgement without seeing what this old girl will look like after a few layers of paint.

Still, she is a fantastic model...one I would love to see in StarFleet Command.

Thanks guys. Once the paint job is applied, the modeled hull plating will be mostly washed out. I just want it to be a subtle detail that won't be noticed right away, but once it is people will think, "oh, there's a lot more stuff on this design!"

I'm also looking forward to texturing this quite a lot. Orion ships in the SFB universe are mostly privately owned by pirates, mercenaries, smugglers, and other such go-betweens, and tend to be decorated and personalized by their captains. So that means I get to have fun.

No, it's a running light. Somehow I forgot to clone the one on the other side...

I haven't modeled the final phaser mounts yet, but once I do, it'll be obvious what they are.

What option mounts are you going to give it?

I 'm not sure yet. I think I'm going to model a selection of different weapon types that I can put on the option mount spaces so I can just swap them out for different ships(a novel idea, I know )

It would look cool with hellbores and plasmas though!

Update. The modeling portion is done. I actually haven't modeled any detail on the bottom of the ship yet, but that's fine for the moment since SVC only needs a top-down view right now. When it becomes necessary though, I will do the bottom. Anyway, here it is:

I dunno - the design seems a little flat to me.

One word...stealth.

Most Orions in SFB have built-in stealth to avoid strategic detection and lock-on during tactical battles.
