I would not argue with your argument on that point, either.
I just recently read the original outline for the "Protracted Man" and for the life of me can not tell how it is connected to the origins / cadet Kirk stuff I've seen on facebook. Can anyone tell me how the NV episode went about adapting the original story?
"The Protracted Man" of the title in this version would be Kirk's father George Kirk, with the story taking placing during Kirk's Academy years. Gerrold said in his "Trouble With Tribbles" book that he thought that the proposed story needed more personal conflict. Having the victim be Kirk's father solves that problem.
Here's a comment I made on the thread about the Star Trek set tours on Sept. 5th:

I'm not sure if the NV crowd had those taken down, but you should be able to see some scenes, like Colin Cunningham as Pike dressing down Matthew Ewald as Cadet Kirk, and Alec Peters' atrocious performance as Garth swooning over the potential he allegedly sees in young Kirk.

Ugh. I've said it before and I'll say it again, that scene is so over the top it's laughable. Whether it's the direction or the actor's choice, I just don't care for how either actor plays this scene.
From the writing to the performance, neither of these characters feel like the characters of Pike or Kirk. Sorry, not sorry but STAR TREK 2009 really nailed both Pike and Kirk well. Unlike this scene.
Holy heck, that was Todd Haberkorn as Sulu in the teaser! I didn't know he had been a part of the Phase II team at one point.

Man, considering their later acrimonious split with Vic Mignogna, that video seems like it's tempting fate now.
Considering the CBS lawsuit and how it's forcing all parties to wind down (including STC at some point--they are taking a calculated risk proceeding) I wish everyone would just let bygones be bygones.

Like Phoenix219, I'd seen all those videos before, but am interested to hear there was one of Garth talking to Cadet Kirk. I've seen more recent shots of Garth returning from Elba II, but never saw that video from "The Protracted Man".
I was trying to find out what role Vic Mignona was going to play in the film. It turns out he was going to play Kirk's father, George Kirk. That would have been interesting.
Its been so long since the bad blood, I just wish they would finish it with Vic and get it out in its original vision.
