Personally I'm voting for an original villain. Somebody who's so incredibly powerful he doesn't need a starship, collaborators, cohorts OR henchmen. And no, for the love of God not Q.

I realise I've said this a gazillion times, but even if everyone's tired of hearing it, I'm not tired of repeating: For the love of Jesus, Mary and Jo-Jo the carpenter, NO KHAN!

Dude, he was a complete moron, and he already got an episode and a film basically everyone thinks is teh awesomenez.

No Khan. Please.

Okay, I'd probably watch it anyway.

Mudd? Too silly.

I think a classic teh evulz villain wouldn't make the cut, as well. I don't know what I want. Just another Khan or anyone bent on taking revenge for whatever reason would be really, really lame. Khan had even less reason to be pissed of than Nero imo (I'm not touching that again), and we already got him filling the slot of deranged revenge-seeking bad guy in Abramsverse.

I know it won't happen, but I'd like to see a return to the kind of Trek where we go exploring and encounter some kind of exciting and interesting challenge. No big-name villain. No save-the-earth-yet-again scenario. Starting as early as TWOK, the movies became basically big fights, with a few exceptions (TVH and INS), but I'd really like to see a good story involving more thoughtful themes.

Agreed. Season 3 of TOS and Season 1 of TNG tended towards preachiness in a number of episodes. I want a Trek movie that makes a valid social point and is entertaining at the same time. TVH wanted to 'save the whales', which was a really big deal back in the mid-80's, while still being a fun romp. For example. :)

True. That was preachiness on a tolerable scale. lol

Seriously, dodgy characters are welcome, but a moustache-twirling villain is just as bad as an in-your-face "moral of the story", such as we got in Avatar.

Gasp! Someone who dislikes Avatar for the same reason I do!
I think Star Trek has pretty much exhausted it's range of social themes, though, unless they want to do something over again. It'd certainly bring in thrice as much money as a good vs. evil Trek movie would, as evidenced by the fact that Avatar's a multi-billion dollar franchise now...

One of the things I dislike about XI was the whole "sassy youngun's coming in and showing the elders a new way of doing things" theme. IMO it just didn't fit any of the characters well.

Having a smack down with an identifiably evil villain was indeed the most awful aspect of Avatar and it made the movie a good 20 minutes longer than it really needed to be.

I'd be happy to see Mudd as a minor villain/thorn in Kirk's side. Maybe he needs to be rescued and traps the ship, maybe he smuggles something dangerous that has a knock on effect, maybe he has the Orion Syndicate on his trail. I think Mudd could be ok as a B-plot character. The gurning Scotty might be a bad sign in terms of making the character more credible but we have plenty of other similar characters to use as a template (Harry Booth in Black Hole, Baltar in NuBSG, Dr Rush in SGU). Obviously we also have many really uber-camp examples of such villains too.

I'd quite like the main plot to involve a delegation of Vulcans (T'Pau, T'Pring, Sarek etc) possibly with a planetary science team (Carol Marcus) or Federation liaison (Garth or Gary Mitchell) who are placed in peril somehow. Plenty of scope of melodrama, love triangles, or Mudd. I rooting more for Rand to make an appearance though.

I'm not bothered either way - was The Dark Knight's Joker a stale rehash of Adam West's or Tim Burton's Joker's? No. Even in Trek, was James Cromwell's Cochrane a rehash of Glen Corbett's? Was Robin Curtis' Saavik a rehash of Kirstie Alley's? Nope - they were nothing alike. Thus a nuKhan, nuMudd, nuMitchell, nuTrelane or whoever else can be anything the writers want them to be.

I want the main enemy of the next movie to be a composite character of the members of the Trekbbs. Please do that Roberto.

Tholians. They would make great antagonists in addition to some other problem that the crew has to solve.

Darth Maul. At least he doesn't talk too much.

As for Avatar... I know my dislike is kind of due to the hype and everyone raving about it... but both the slapstick preachiness and the teh evulz military bloke were a turn-off like no other.

Yeah, we get it. Saving the environment is the new black, the new Hollywood bandwagon. Sometimes, less is more.

I hope the mwahaha villains and the morals keep a low profile in the new Trek film.

This is pretty much it. The new Star Trek movie was a reboot in the same manner of Batman Begins and Casino Royale; and it's not inconceivable that now the franchise has given us new iterations of the iconic leads, it will give us new iterations of iconic villains or stories.

I voted for Harry Mudd but given the very sixties camp of the character I'd be very surprised if he actually appeared in a nuTrek movie as anything other then a brief comedy bit.

Would I like a Star Trek movie that isn't about hitting some villain? Yes, actually. And I recall some vague chatter from Orci and Kurtzmann about a sci-fi problem being the conundrum in a future flick, but eh...

I think it should be a Klingon, they should be defined. After all they were original Trek's biggest bad guys.

Do they have huge foreheads or not? Are they all about honor codes or not? I think they could do interesting things with them.
