Ori question?

OK I have been making my way through the series over the the last few months, and I just finished season 10. My question is did the Merlin weapon work? Were the Ori killed? It makes sense that their followers would keep up the fight to convert everyone. But do we ever find out if it worked?

As far as series finales go this one's was pretty weak. Granted very few are actually as good as we hope for. But there were a lot of unanswered questions and loose ends. I'm guessing this was meant for the DVD movies? I have yet to watch Ark of Truth but did jump ahead and rent Continuum a month or so ago. So maybe there will be some closure for me after all.;)

Due to SG-1's abrupt cancellation, there wasn't enough time to wrap everything up. There was barely enough time to abandon the proposed season finale script (which would have ended on a cliffhanger) and write the script for Unending. Therefore, all the unresolved issues regarding the Ori storyline had to wait to be resolved in Ark of Truth.

Watch the Ark of Truth or read the spoilers.

Here it was revealed that the device worked, however it did not affect Adria who ascended after it was activated. She received all of the power the Ori's worshippers were generating and was thus unstoppable. Unfortunately for her, the Dosi was exposed to the Ark, making him see the truth. This message spread through the telepathic link between Priors and then to their followers. With no more believers, Adria was weakened to the point where Morgan LeFay was able to fight her.

Ark of Truth should be regarded as the real Series Finale as after the cancellation they didn't have enough time to fit it into the regular series. The DVD movies only came about as a response to the cancellation.

No they are not dead, the Ori attack and destroy the Milky Way ancients due to their power obtained from Human worship. Earth ends up time travelling through the Stargate in order to retrieve Merlin's device from their previous selves, in order for it to succeed though they need an ascended being to take it to the Ori Galaxy and sacrifice themselves. It ends up that Daniel Jackson has to die and Ascend in order to take the device.

Regardless of not having enough time etc etc they could have at least written a half decent series finale, not the terrible mess that is Unending.

Personally I didn't mind the episode. I liked that it didn't wrap everything up since we knew movies were coming. Plus I like "old" Teal'c

It could have not wrapped anything up whilst simultaneously delivering a compelling, exciting, dramatic, epic series finale storyline. But no, we were stuck with the crew growing old, getting depressed and all the characters getting on each others nerves; whilst at the same time killing the asgard race in the opening 5 minutes :rolleyes:, filling the episode with technobable, and having no use of the actual Stargate whatsoever. Older Teal'c is exactly the same as younger Teal'c, and everything else is reset anyway apart from him so the whole episode has pretty much no consequence. Awful episode; especially it was a series finale of ten years on SG-1.

ANY of Full Circle, Lost City or Reckoning would have been far better, obviously with a bit of storyline tweaking. They should have saved a Full Circle type episode till they KNEW it would be the last episode. It would have led in nicely with the beginning of Atlantis. In fact I'd rather they didn't bother with the whole Ori thing in the first place.

I just hope Enemy at the Gate is better.
