Optimizer Programs That Actually Work

I see a lot of ads and a lot of software out there regarding these programs that supposedly optimize your operating system...make it run faster, better, stronger, etc. Are there any out there that actually work. I am sort of a technodolt when it comes to the nuts and bolts of how my computer really works. Are there any that other users here would recommend?

*shrug*

I know squat about computers too, but I regularly run ccleaner to clean up temporary files and the registry and it seems to help a fair bit. Certainly the very first time I used it, the difference was very noticeable esp the speed of start-up.

I doubt it. It smells like a scam (at best) and ad/malware (at worst). I'd avoid stuff like this.

I know that Mac OS X does its *own* optimization, and that's all it needs.

It is part scam part truth. Programs like that do work, but the scam is for the non-technical people. A tech person like me has all of this at my disposal, but a non-tech person doesn't, so they have to rely on stuff like that.

I bet it does work, but you can use the free ware stuff and get the same results. Ccleaner was mentioned and it is good. Spybot search and destroy is free and the advanced features let you edit the bologna on start up so that will help.

So it is not a scam, just someone who wrote a program that is similar to alot of other programs out there. This person is trying to sell there program to non tech users.

I've encountered a few situations where I was glad to have TechTool Pro. Mostly that's for errors, though; OSX does a pretty good job on the speed side.
